Location: Framingham, MA Category: Staff Posted On: Wed Feb 5 2025 Job Description: GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: As a member of the FSU Center for Student Experience & Career Development, the Director of Career Development supervises all aspects of Career Services at Framingham State University. Responsibilities include the planning, implementation and administration of comprehensive career development programs for students and alumni. The Director is responsible for oversight of developing, enhancing, and maintaining partnerships with major employers in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and, specifically, in the MetroWest Region in order to facilitate internship and career opportunities for Framingham State University students and alumni. This is a forward-facing position working directly with students, faculty and staff while creating a strong community network of employers and community members to support the work. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Executive Director for Student Experience & Career Development SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises the Coordinator of Career Readiness Integration, Coordinator of Employer Outreach, Career Counselors, and student staff. EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative/Financial Provides oversight management of career development office and staff functions. Supervises and provides training and evaluation for full-time professional staff, multiple part-time career specialists, and student employees. Determines annual and ongoing priorities for office, working diligently to bring these priorities to fruition. Establishes and implements departmental policies and manages department budget. Collaborates with the University Development Office to work with donors regarding career engagement events and sponsorship. Coordinates assessment of departmental activities to promote a culture of continuous improvement that aligns with strategic university goals. Counseling/Programming Identifies student needs for information and advising on career planning, employment, graduate school opportunities, and scholarships. In collaboration with staff, creates programs, services, and publications to meet those needs. Counsel students on an individual basis regarding career planning, graduate school, and employment issues, as needed. In conjunction with career development staff, develops and delivers workshops and career-related programs. Examples include Career Readiness Curriculum Faculty Institute and career fairs. Supports University and Division's strategic goals by developing complementary programming and resources. Works with academic departments to meet the career and internship needs of students in targeted majors. Collaborates with staff in the Center for Student Experience and Career Development in creating and enhancing the connection between out-of-the-classroom skills and career readiness, in connection to the Student Affairs strategic plan and within the Campus Engagement work unit. Community Outreach/Networking Addresses alumni groups, parents, faculty, student organizations, and other administrators on career-related issues. Makes concerted effort to develop new partnerships with families and faculty. Supervises staff that build relationships and create awareness among corporate and community organizations regarding the benefits of hiring university students and graduates and of the services of career services to increase job postings, recruitment, and hiring activity. Works with members of the University community and local employers to develop and maintain mentoring relationships with students and innovative programs to meet strategic goals. Serves on University-wide committees and community boards to represent the department and division. Collaborates with diversity, inclusion, and community engagement departments and diversity councils to develop and implement diversity initiatives and programs. Works with partners in industry and commerce to develop knowledge of employment trends in the state. General Responsibilities Serves as department designee in office decisions and university committees in absence of Executive Director. Assists in the hiring of professional, classified and student employees within the Center for Student Experience and Career Development. Maintains records relating to the work of Career Services to constantly evaluate activities and to provide resource documents and data for year-end reports. Serves on Student Affairs and University-wide standing committees. Attends University functions of general importance to the student body (Orientation, Commencement, Homecoming & Family Weekend, etc.) Stays current on trends in higher education, student affairs, and career development through involvement in professional organizations, in-service training, and continued education. Works some evenings and weekend events to support career-related events, as well as university-wide events. Designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act. Accountable for ensuring that equal opportunity, equity, and inclusion are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility. WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work hours take place in an office environment requiring use of computer and telephone. Working both indoors and outdoors for certain events and activities, includes standing for periods of time, bending, crouching, and any other body movements associated with event support. Some evening and weekend hours as events and campus presentations require. Some travel with student groups on buses, other provided transportation or own transportation. Some remote work possible in accordance with the University's Staff Telework Guidelines when not needed for certain events, activities, or meetings, and during low student presence time periods on campus. Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in counseling, higher education, business, or a related field. 3 years of experience in a higher education environment. Knowledge of career counseling, related career assessments, and job trends. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Supervisory experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Effective public relations and networking abilities. Experience working in a higher education career development office. Experience using Handshake. Additional Information: This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Director. The starting salary range is $73,000-85,000.
