This is a role with multi-site responsibilities for Charter Dura-Bar and Charter Aarrowcast, both members of the Charter Manufacturing family of companies. Site locations are primarily in Shawano WI and Woodstock IL with distribution facilities Fort Worth, TX, Salsbury, NC and York PA. (Relocation assistance available.) Alternative job titles: Project Engineering Manager, Plant Engineering Manager, Mechanical Engineering Manager. Job Summary: The Engineering Manager oversees Plant Reliability Improvements, Industrial Engineering, Project Engineering, and large capital upgrade functions. Responsibilities include supervising and developing engineers, managing engineering systems, and coordinating with Quality, Safety, Operations, Purchasing, and Finance teams. The role involves managing process control, production capacity, and design activities, and developing budgets. The Engineering Manager ensures projects meet internal customer requirements and partners with Maintenance to ensure reliable equipment. Responsible for 5-year capital planning, including management and execution of strategic growth and uplift projects. Travel: Frequent presence expected at the Shawano WI and Woodstock IL facilities. Minimum of two (2) days onsite at each location every 2 weeks. Annual visits to distribution facilities in Fort Worth TX, Salsbury NC, and York PA. What You Will Do: Supervision and Development: Direct supervision and development of Engineers. Oversee annual intern program and ongoing Engineering recruitment. Assign, track, and hold accountable engineering staff on assignments and responsibilities. Administrate engineering staff development including training, performance goals, annual reviews, position profiles, and accountability on how work gets done. Cross-train staff on critical skills and execute succession plans when needed. Hire, assign and review work, interview, train, discipline, evaluate performance, enforce company policies, and recommend changes on employee status. Project Management: Facilitate project management through project database with priority and progress review during department and staff reviews. Review and define project intake for all engineering requests. Review and approve engineering designs, transactions, travel, and proposals. Complete quarterly project review meetings with major plant departments. Coordinate and support Team Mandated Improvement projects. Prepare and submit required reports to senior management. Perform other duties as assigned. Budget and Planning: Develop and execute capital, R&D, and expense improvement budgets. Submit monthly capital budget updates and annual business plans. Manage R&D program, including annual budgets, staff requirements, Sales interactions, prototype programs, and experimentation schedules. Review, develop, and approve financial proposals per business policy and benefits for project spends. Process and Quality Control: Oversee process control and manage process changes through production systems and engineering documentation. Administrate capacity, capability, and efficiency studies to ensure reliable operations and growth for the future. Investigate and recommend redesign of facility and equipment. Recommend replacements and improvements to equipment to improve efficiency and meet Continuous Improvement requirements. Coordinate plant shutdowns with maintenance and operations departments. Provide support to maintenance through Reliability programs, predictive maintenance, redesigns, direct troubleshooting, and repairs with Electrical employees, management of contractors, and manage staff on system responsibilities. Communication and Collaboration: Coordinate requests and develop teamwork with Quality, Safety, Operations, Purchasing, and Finance Departments. Network and communicate effectively with peers and other departments to maintain professional relationships. Follow Environmental, Quality, and Safety Management System procedures and requirements. Keep abreast of technological changes and developments in related fields. What You Will Need: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related degree. Five plus years' engineering experience working in a manufacturing environment. Three plus years' engineering or project management experience or equivalent. Strong communication skills both written and verbal requiring tact and discretion. Ability to explain, persuade, and obtain approvals. Strong interpersonal skills in engaging with others and learning their area of the business. Ability to communicate and influence engineering driven change. Employ business and strategic mindset so activity and programs are developed to coordinate engineering activity. Strong problem solving, decision making, and conflict management skills. Ability to get work done through others. Ability to be a self-starter and requiring little or no supervision. Nice to Have: Master's Degree in Engineering, Business or related advance degree. Experience in foundry and casting industries Eight plus years' engineering experience working in a manufacturing environment. Trained in Continuous Improvement Black Belt or Green Belt methodologies. Strong analytical skills to gather data from multiple sources and report findings. Related industry environment experience. Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple tasks while being detail oriented. Manufacturing and design engineering understanding. Basic mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge. Continuous Improvement, Lean Tools, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and Root-Cause Analysis experience. Ability to work in teams as a leader and as a member. Drafting and CAD skills (AutoCAD software preferred). Proficiency with advanced features of Microsoft Office software products. #LI-PF1 #LI-HYBRID The annual hiring range for this position is: 129,600 USD-$162,000. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will depend on various factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and qualifications. Compensation decisions are tailored to the unique circumstances of each position and candidate.
