Salary: $2,000.00 Monthly Location : City of Norwalk - Norwalk Health Department, CT Job Type: Part-Time Job Number: 8174-01-2025 Department: Health Department Opening Date: 02/28/2025 Closing Date: 3/30/2025 11:59 PM Eastern FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: Non Standard Description of WorkPosition Definition: Qualified and dedicated Medical Director to provide medical leadership, guidance, and oversight to the Norwalk Health Department on a part-time, stipend basis. The Medical Director will collaborate with the Director of Health, clinical staff, and community partners to ensure high-quality health services, improve public health outcomes, and support the city's health initiatives. General Duties: Work closely with the Director of Health and clinical staff to develop and enhance health programs and services within the department and ensure compliance with regulations and standards. Evaluate medical policies and standards of care and advise clinical staff on the management and treatment of communicable diseases, vaccine requirements, and best practices. Review clinical cases and collaborate with other physicians and sources to ensure compliance with treatment and reporting procedures. Remain current on pertinent medical and public health issues using research and data analysis to inform health initiatives and improve public health outcomes Remain available to provide coverage for Adult & Travel Immunization and Tuberculosis Control when needed. Support and assist with clinical activities. Conduct periodic reviews of patient records to ensure provider adherence to best practices and collaborate with the Supervisor of Clinical Services to discuss findings. Offer counsel on program design, strategies, and interventions aimed at addressing clinical and community health needs. Serve as a liaison between the Health Department and the broader medical community, on the local, state, and federal levels, to foster collaboration and address health concerns. Be available for telephone consultations on various medical and public health topics. Assist with clinical operations by approving written protocols and standing orders, and by collaborating with mid-level professional staff to support their work Attend the Health Department in person to meet periodically with the clinical team (as coordinated with the Supervisor of Clinical Services). Serve as the medical advisor for larger community health events, such as flu clinics and emergency preparedness drills, ensuring they are aligned with best practices. Attend monthly Board of Health meetings to present information, provide updates, and answer questions from board members. Act as a representative of the Health Department at public meetings and community forums, such as those involving the Board of Health, Board of Estimate and Taxation, Common Council, and others. This is a stipend-based, part-time position. Minimum Qualifications Current State of Connecticut medical license and certificates. MPH or public health experience is preferred. Possession of an NPI number and credentialing with various insurance providers is highly preferred.
