Our Procurement team designs and implements robust, cloud-native applications that streamline purchasing and sourcing workflows and enhance the user experience for our local and state governments. As the Director of Engineering, you will steer the technical direction of our distributed engineering teams and drive the strategic vision for our procurement suite. Your role will be pivotal in shaping and implementing transformative ideas into robust, scalable, multi-tenant cloud solutions. Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership and VisionLead the engineering department in developing and executing a technological strategy that aligns with company objectives.Identify and implement new technologies and processes to keep the company at the forefront of the industry, ensuring scalability and innovation.Institute a culture of data-driven decision-making, leveraging analytics and performance metrics to guide engineering strategies and enhance product features and reliability. Team Leadership and Development:Oversee and mentor multiple engineering teams, from senior engineers to managers, guiding strategic direction and ensuring execution alignment with corporate goalsRecruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent, shaping an organizational structure that supports career growth, learning, and performance excellence.Cultivate leadership within your teams, promoting career growth and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.Lead customer-centric product development initiatives, ensuring user feedback and market research are integral to the engineering process, enhancing product-market fit and customer satisfaction. Technical Expertise:Provide executive oversight for the architectural design, development, and deployment of scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions.Make high-level decisions on technology stacks and engineering practices that drive the company's product strategy. Cross-Functional CollaborationServe as a bridge between engineering and other departments, working closely with Product, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Service to ensure alignment between engineering outputs and business objectives.Maintain clear and transparent communication channels within and across teams, providing updates on project status, system architecture, and timeline expectations.Orchestrate cross-departmental initiatives that drive company-wide objectives. Operational Excellence:Implement efficient, resilient systems and processes that minimize technical debt and enhance performance to lead your organization toward operational excellence.Lead initiatives that promote a culture of continuous improvement, embedding best practices and operational efficiencies across the engineering organization. Requirements and Preferred Experience: Minimum of 12+ years in software engineering, with at least 7 years in leadership roles managing engineering teams. Experience as a Senior Engineering Manager or equivalent, with a proven track record of scaling engineering organizations in fast-paced environments. Extensive experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), cloud-native architecture, API design, microservices, and modern software development practices. Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to translate business goals into technological visions and scalable solutions. Demonstrated experience in driving technology roadmaps and product strategy. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of motivating staff, collaborating with other departments, and engaging with senior management and stakeholders effectively. A track record of fostering innovation and adapting to evolving technological landscapes, maintaining a forward-thinking approach to engineering challenges. Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to engage in strategic planning and partnership, aligning engineering outputs with business objectives and market demands. Extensive experience implementing Agile development methodologies and embracing DevOps practices to streamline deployment processes, enhance team collaboration, and improve product time-to-market. On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance. The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate's geographical location. Why OpenGov?
