Salary: $5,378.00 - $6,537.00 Monthly Location : San Leandro, CA Job Type: Full-Time Department: Police Department Opening Date: 01/01/2025 Closing Date: Continuous The Position This is the entry-level class in the Police Service Technician series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Police Service Technician I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned. Supervision Received and Exercised: Receives immediate supervision from assigned management and/or supervisory personnel. May receive technical and functional supervision from the Police Services Supervisor. Exercises no supervision. Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions: The essential functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity. Performs technical, detailed, and responsible law enforcement support work; Provides general support services for the San Leandro Police Department including maintenance of jail operations, criminal investigations support, traffic and patrol duties, and recordkeeping functions; Assists with arraignments, maintains jail log, delivery of court documents, including case reports, operates city vehicles; processes and searches incoming prisoners; transfers prisoners; Prepares and distributes meals, dispenses medications, monitors prisoner safety and well-being, and screens and refers requests for medical attention; Transports victims, witnesses, and equipment; and performs related duties as assigned. For detailed information about the job classification, visit: QualificationsExperience and Education Guidelines: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: One year of experience involving extensive contact with the public. Experience in a law enforcement environment is desirable. Education: High school diploma or certified equivalent (GED); supplemental course work in law enforcement administration or related field is desirable. Licenses/certifications/other requirements: Completion of the Standard for Training Corrections (STC) is required within one year; Police Service Technician I shall meet ongoing annual training requirement and certification as mandated by STC (jail is STC-certified). Ability to demonstrate proficiency in taser/shield usage, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation within one year. Certification for possession and maintenance of firearms, less-than-lethal weapons, CPR and First Aid within one year. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License. Must pass a comprehensive background check, physical examination and drug testing. Possession of POST PC 832 certification is highly desirable.
