Dynamic NYC Organization Seeks "Year-Long & Seasonal Mentoring Basketball Coaches" New Heights was founded in October 2005 as an independent non-profit organization in New York City. Our mission is "to educate and empower promising underserved youth to be leaders, champions and student-athletes by developing the skills necessary for success in high school, college and life." We are located at the Major R. Owens Health & Wellness Community Center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Our facility includes three basketball courts, three classrooms, offices, tutoring rooms, and meeting spaces. New Heights provides intensive, long-term support for promising young athletes from underserved communities to develop the academic skills, leadership abilities and character traits necessary to succeed beyond sports. Through our new home and programming, we will be expanding our services to impact thousands of youth annually, primarily in grades 4-12, through our College Bound and Community programs that include: Travel basketball teams Academic support, tutoring, counseling and workshops focused on social-emotional learning and life skills High school preparation, guidance and placement services College preparation, guidance and placement services New Heights Summer Academy (an academic-athletic summer program) Community-based clinics, leagues, camps, workshops and events About The Bridge Program New Heights Youth, Inc. is launching The Bridge Program (Pilot), a sports-based youth development initiative that provides underserved adolescents with basketball training, academic support, and life skills mentorship. Coaches will play a crucial role in fostering athletic development while mentoring and empowering student-athletes on and off the court. The Bridge Coaches will be responsible for delivering high-quality basketball instruction, facilitating skill-building sessions, and mentoring youth in alignment with New Heights' holistic development approach. This part-time position reports to the Community Manager and is based at our facility located at 1561 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225. With an anticipated March 17, 2025 start date, the position's work schedule will be: Weekdays Spring, Fall and Winter Primarily Monday and Friday evenings 3:30pm to 6:30pm Weekends Summer Saturday mornings 8:30am to 12:30pm Quarterly Training Primary Responsibilities Basketball Coaching & Player Development Plan and lead structured basketball practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and game strategy. Provide individualized feedback to student-athletes to support their growth. Reinforce fundamentals, conditioning, and basketball IQ development. Mentorship & Youth Development Serve as a positive role model, fostering confidence and leadership among participants. Build meaningful relationships with student-athletes, supporting their personal and academic growth. Collaborate with the Community Manager and staff to ensure youth engagement and success. Program Support & Safety Ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment during all practices and games. Support program activities, including study hall check-ins and life skills workshops. Communicate with families and staff regarding player progress and participation. Qualifications & Skills Experience coaching basketball at the youth, high school, or collegiate level. Passion for youth development and commitment to sports-based mentorship. Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. Ability to connect with and motivate diverse groups of young athletes. Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and player development techniques. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
