Title:Postdoctoral ResearcherDepartment:Center for Solar Research - CAReports To:Professor, Center for Solar Research - CAPosition Type:StaffPosition Summary:The Center for Solar Terrestrial Research (CSTR) of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to join its research team at Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO). The CSTR/NJIT operates the 1.6-meter off-axis Goode Solar Telescope (GST) at BBSO that is a world class facility for high spatial and temporal resolution solar observations in the optical and infrared ranges. The position is anticipated to start in Spring 2025. The initial appointment is for one year, with a possibility of renewal for up to two additional years contingent upon performance and available funding.The CSTR at NJIT is a world-renowned institution in solar and space physics. CSTR operating the BBSO and the Owens Valley Solar Array (OVSA) in California, is an Instrument PI institute in the NASA Van Allen Probes mission and manages the Polar Engineering Development Center. CSTR also hosts a NASA MIRO Research Center and an NSF REU Site. To build a diverse workforce, NJIT, an EEO employer, encourages applications from individuals with disabilities, minorities, veterans, and women.Essential Functions:- Investigate the physics of small-scale solar activity and solar eruptions utilizing data acquired by the cutting-edge GST.- Experience in analysis of ground and space-based data and/or modeling within the field of solar physics is preferred.- Expected to perform the duties of a postdoctoral fellow, including publication of original research, assisting in supervision of graduate/undergraduate students, and attending professional conferences.Prerequisite Qualifications: - Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, Astrophysics, Space Physics, or closely related fields, and be to work and live at an elevation of 2000 meters.- Have experience with groundbased telescopes, NASA solar space missions' coordination, and high-resolution data processing, analysis and archiving is highly desirable.- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.Bargaining Unit:AFT-UCANFLSA:ExemptFull-TimeSpecial Instructions to Applicants:The successful candidate will work with Prof. Wenda Cao and other senior researchers at BBSO/CSTR.
