Responsibilities Job Description The Legal Counsel/Associate General Counsel role will provide legal counsel to the Pharmacy line of business at Fairview Health Services under the general direction of the Chief Legal Officer and reporting to the Vice President, Senior Associate General Counsel - Pharmacy. This role will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various health system contracts, including those related to drug supply, transportation, laboratory services, rehabilitation, and IT. The role is also responsible for providing regulatory and compliance guidance on pharmacy-related matters, including controlled substance diversion investigations and interactions with agencies such as the DEA and FDA. In addition to delivering strategic legal advice, this role will collaborate with business leaders, auditors, and investigators to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The role will provide support to internal teams by refining contracting processes, training executives and management, and staying informed on evolving legal and regulatory requirements impacting healthcare and pharmacy operations. This position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple complex legal matters in a fast-paced environment while working both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of health system contracts, including those related to transportation, drug supply, laboratories, rehabilitation, and IT. Develop, refine, and enhance contracting processes and policies while providing ongoing training for management and executives. Advise auditors and investigators on standards for determining narcotics diversion and reporting to relevant licensing boards and regulatory agencies (e.g., DEA, FDA, local law enforcement, Vulnerable Adult authorities). Engage with regulatory agencies (DEA, FDA) to follow up on investigations. Coordinate subpoena responses for licensing boards and regulatory agencies in relation to diversion investigations. Prepare employees for regulatory interviews. Provide legal counsel on a broad range of healthcare, pharmacy compliance, and regulatory issues, including community advancement, transportation, and pharmacy services. Review and assess pharmacy requests to share PHI outside the Fairview system. Advise on patient assistance programs and their relationships with manufacturer assistance programs. Manage multiple legal matters simultaneously while collaborating on regulatory, compliance, and operational issues. Stay informed on significant changes in laws and regulations, providing guidance to senior attorneys and business leaders. Participate in and contribute to various working groups and committees, such as the Controlled Substances Diversion Prevention Committee, and Fairview Pharmacy Solutions (FPS) Compliance Committee. Required Education & Experience Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with a strong academic record. 2-5 years of legal experience in a law firm or healthcare organization. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical solutions and recommendations quickly and accurately.
