In partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives to advance community health throughout the city. PROGRAM OVERVIEW The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is the oldest and largest health department in the country. Our mission is to protect and improve the health of all New Yorkers. The Center for Population Health Data Science (CPHDS) aims to catalyze critical data modernization work and enable the agency to link public health, healthcare, and social services for effective public action. We work towards making data more accessible, timely, equitable, and protected to promote the health and well-being of New Yorkers. This position will be based at the Health Department's office in Long Island City, NY, with the possibility of hybrid work. POSITION OVERVIEW This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to oversee the agency's effort to modernize how data is published and accessed. The Senior Director, Digital Data Experience Transformation will lead an agency-wide effort to empower analysts and researchers to publish program data and insights while aligning these efforts with the agency's communications priorities. RESPONSIBILITIES Technology and Digital Transformation Lead the development of a user-centered, self-service platform for publishing public health data. Collaborate with IT and analytics teams to integrate tools with the agency's data systems while ensuring security and compliance. Drive the adoption of modern data visualization and publication technologies. Oversee the design and development of user interfaces for data publishing. Enablement and Capacity Building Establish and lead an Enablement Unit to support and train analysts in publishing data. Develop guidelines and workflows that streamline data publishing. Foster collaboration across divisions to share data and insights effectively. Act as a mentor to agency staff in user-centered design and digital publishing. Strategic Leadership and Collaboration Partner with the Senior Director of Data Communications to align digital and traditional strategies. Collaborate with leadership to prioritize digital publication efforts. Build relationships to identify opportunities for data sharing. Engage with external partners to assess needs and enhance data transparency. Management and Oversight Build and manage a team of digital product specialists and data visualization experts. Oversee the creation and maintenance of data publication workflows. Track platform performance and user engagement. QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in public health, Data Science, Communications, Information Technology, or related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in public health data communication, including 3 years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated success in leading digital transformation projects. Proven expertise in data visualization and user experience design. PREFERRED SKILLS Proficiency in data visualization tools and web development frameworks. Strong understanding of public health data systems and user-centered design principles. Familiarity with web development and data integration technologies. Excellent communication and project management skills. Ability to prioritize work and adjust priorities as needed. The ideal candidate must be a proactive and self-motivated individual comfortable with multitasking and working in a dynamic environment. This individual may need to work non-business hours in the event of a health emergency. SALARY The salary range for this position is $125K - $135K.
