Senior Software Engineer Wanted to Work in Bioinformatics at a Top Foundation Pay range: $70 to $95 per hour AreYouthe Missing Piece? This foundation drives groundbreaking math and science research that improves the lives of everyday people. They're currently working on an autism research project and need a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer with an interest in bioinformatics to join them on a six-month contract basis with the potential of becoming full-time. In this initiative, you'll be working at the intersection of software engineering and genomics, collaborating very closely with the VP of Informatics, developing API services to track whole-genome sequencing results. You'll be using React for front-end development, Django for backend, and it would be preferred (but not a dealbreaker) if you have some experience with the Remix framework. What's it going to take to score an interview? You have real-world software engineering experience: You must have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including planning, designing, and developing web-based applications. Major plus if you have bioinformatics experience, particularly in genomics. You've got this non-negotiable tech stack: Extensive experience with React.js for front-end development and Django / Django REST framework for RESTful APIs. You must have UI/UX experience designing intuitive and interactive interfaces and a deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle. Experience creating interactive data visualizations is a must. Huge advantage if you have these preferred skills: Experience with Remix framework is great. Added pluses if you have worked with Celery and asynchronous task queues in the past. You work autonomously and don't need a lot of handholding: Yes, you'll collaborate closely with other senior/software and bioinformatics engineers and have the VP of Informatics as your boss, but you must be comfortable working independently as an individual contributor. Mission-driven work is important to you: In a world where federal funding is being pulled from a lot of crucial scientific work, stepping into a role like this has real meaning and importance to you and your career. You should take this meeting because ... Your work on this project will directly help 50,000 families affected by autism and give you a foot in the door at one of America's top philanthropic foundations committed to advancing science and mathematics to benefit humankind.
