Property/Casualty Claims Representative (Adjuster) Minnesota Counties Intergovernmental Trust (MCIT) Job Details Full time, exempt Location: St. Paul, Minn. The claims representative will be handling claims involving both first and third party coverages to include Commercial Property, Inland Marine, Automobile, General Liability, Public Employees Liability and Cyber. MCIT is a joint powers government entity made up of Minnesota counties and associated public entities that pool resources to provide property, liability and workers compensation coverage to members. Core Responsibilities Under the direction and supervision of the property/casualty claims manager, the claims representative: Is responsible for investigating claims, evaluating claims, negotiating claims, coordinating defense for claims and settling claims across multiple lines of property and liability coverage. Adjust claims within MCIT standards, industry best practices and specific member service requirements in an electronic claims system. Typical Duties The following are common duties of the claims representative: Gather, analyze, investigate and document all information to determine whether a loss is covered under the terms of the MCIT Coverage Document Evaluate exposures and establish timely, accurate, and appropriate reserves Communicate claim activity in a timely manner to the MCIT member Evaluate claims for potential settlement, participate in negotiations and settle claims within authorized limits Coordinate recovery efforts for subrogation, salvage and restitution Required Qualifications A four-year degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, insurance or related field and two years of Minnesota property/casualty claims handling experience; OR A two-year degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, insurance or related field and four years of Minnesota property/casualty claims handling experience; OR High school diploma and six years of Minnesota property/casualty claims handling experience. Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle drivers license. Preferred Qualifications Multiline claims handling experience, focusing on complex and litigated claims, with litigation management experience Experience working in a paperless/electronic claims environment Desired Qualifications Familiarity with local government, service organizations, associations Familiarity with principles of Minnesota municipal law and federal civil rights claims Download the Property/Casualty Claims Representative Position Description for a full list of duties, responsibilities and requirements.
