Summary: The Transportation Planner Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of transportation planning activities for all branch locations (including inbound/outbound shipment planning, various transportation modes and costs, tendering and spot bidding, and resolving freight settlement). Will oversee and manage Transportation Planners to drive optimized shipment plans and routes utilizing the Transportation Management System (OTM) and will drive alignment of planning activities with broader business goals. Supervisors may complete the same activities as their direct reports. Primary Duties: * Supervises and manages 5-8 Transportation Planners, monitoring the execution of daily transportation planning activities including inbound/outbound shipment planning, various transportation modes and costs, tendering and spot bidding, and resolving freight settlement * Acts as an escalation point for issues and requests from branches and Transportation Planners * Actively participates in business development, identifying opportunities for process improvements and scalability * Reviews and escalates recommendations to improve route efficiency and reduce costs * Coordinates with Branches to provide real time solutions, minimizing service disruptions/missed pickups in a cost-effective manner * Collaborates with and fosters a good working relationship with Sales and Operations teams to ensure shipments and routes are appropriate and meet customer needs * Develops relationships with third party carriers and brokers to improve carrier commitments and reduce transportation costs * Supports reconciliation of additional costs on invoice with Freight AP Analyst * Monitors daily planning and execution KPIs to ensure on-time planning and execution * Ensures compliance of Transportation Planners according to the CFR Title 49 / DOT regulations * Manages in transit rail operations, local switch service, and Raven Logistics outsource program * Works with railroad account representatives to ensure acceptable service levels and switch frequency is maintained * Investigates rail demurrage root cause and establishes best practices to mitigate charges * Manages rail sidetrack repair process * Negotiates transload rates and responsible for onboarding of new sites * Subject matter experts for truck and rail What we're looking for: * Supervisory experience in a distribution operation MOT: LTL / FTL / Rail * Branch operations and Transportation Management System knowledge * Strong attention to detail with excellent follow-up skills to ensure cross-functional requests are being met in a timely manner * Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey information and raise concerns * Ability to provide coaching and development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and performance * Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, ensuring that the team meets deadlines and operational targets * Proficiency using centralized order management system (DMSI Agility), Transportation Management System (Oracle Transportation Management), and other relevant tools / technology * Ability to prioritize urgent issues and drive resolution * Ability to teach and enforce process discipline * Process improvement and operating efficiency Why BlueLinx? * Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage. * Financial Security: 401K match and life insurance. * Work-Life Balance: Generous vacation and holiday pay. * Growth Opportunities: Tuition reimbursement to help you advance your career.
