Description The Sustainability Manager will play a pivotal role in establishing and supporting the development of sustainability framework, strategies, and reporting systems at La Terra Fina, laying the groundwork for long-term sustainability initiatives. This role will report to the VP of Operations and Innovation and work in close collaboration with the Product Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Brand Marketing and Sales teams. This role is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter to help shape the company's future sustainability efforts. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills, a deep understanding of sustainability principles, and experience in managing cross-functional teams to drive positive social and environmental impact. Sustainability Strategy Development & Execution: Lead the development and implementation of the company's sustainability strategy, setting clear, measurable goals in alignment with company values and industry best practices. Collaborate with key stakeholders to collect, validate, and analyze data on sustainability and social impact metrics, including energy use, carbon emissions, waste reduction, packaging and circularity, and water usage. Identify key sustainability opportunities within the organization's operations, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and supply chain sustainability. Work cross-functionally to ensure sustainability initiatives are incorporated in new projects (NPD, new packaging development, CI initiatives, co-manufacturing operations). Benchmark company sustainability practices against industry standards and competitors. Identify data gaps and opportunities; improve documentation of existing processes/initiatives. Sustainability Reporting & Communication: Establish systems to track and report La Terra Fina's sustainability performance against set KPIs. Ensure transparency and accuracy in reporting, providing regular reports to senior management and stakeholders, including ad hoc reports requested by external stakeholders (retailers). Translate reports/results into consumer-friendly language for external communication (La Terra Fina socials, customer presentations, etc.). Lead and manage La Terra Fina's response on sustainability reporting platforms for owned and co-man facilities - Gigaton THESIS, CDP, and CAA. Ensure regulatory compliance by staying informed about evolving sustainability regulations and reporting requirements. Knowledge of international sustainability standards and regulations is a plus (Canada/Mexico). Project Management: Develop long-term strategic sustainability initiatives roadmap for La Terra Fina aligned with company goals, strategy, and vision. Project manage and lead implementation of sustainability initiatives ensuring that timelines and deliverables are met. Collaborate cross-functionally to set up supply chain mapping framework for La Terra Fina. Perform other job-related duties as required. Requirements Role-based Competencies Experience in CPG and food manufacturing is preferred. Understanding of sustainability and ESG concepts. Critical thinking with strong research and analytical skills. Project management/time management. Leadership and influencing skills/team player. Background Requirements Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in ESG reporting and metrics, sustainability program management, social impact, or a related field. Skills and Competencies: Good understanding of sustainability concepts and corporate governance. Clear understanding and proficiency in calculating GHG emissions for scope 1, 2, and 3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear reports and presentations. Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to compile, analyze, and present data. Strong organizational, time-management, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project). Familiarity with project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet) is required. Familiarity with sustainability tracking software is a plus. Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and perspectives; be a team player. Physical Requirements This is a hybrid role (3 days in office) based out of our office in Union City, California. Frequently requires standing, lifting, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, smelling, listening, speaking, and seeing to perform the essential job duties. Close visual acuity to view a computer terminal, analyze reports, manage data and detail.
