We are seeking an Engineer to provide subject matter expertise and daily support for the Day-Ahead Market (DAMKT) . This critical role requires real-time decision-making that impacts market outcomes, settlements, and payments to Market Participants. The Senior Engineer will also be responsible for ensuring software compliance, leading market improvements, troubleshooting issues, and creating necessary tools to support daily operations. Key Responsibilities: Market Support: Act as the primary support for DAMKT Operators, ensuring the successful daily clearing of DAMKT, DA RUC, and Multi-Day Forecast. Make real-time decisions during production that impact the DAMKT, DA RUC, and forecast outcomes. On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation, providing 7-day a week support to resolve urgent market issues. Software Testing & Enhancements: Testing of market software fixes and enhancements, coordinating Market Participant testing and ensuring all updates are effective and operational. Defect Resolution: Identify, resolve, and track software defects by coordinating with operations staff, vendors, and testing teams to implement appropriate fixes. Market Improvement: Lead efforts to improve the market by analyzing issues, proposing and gaining consensus on changes, implementing solutions, training staff, and tracking the impact of changes. Tool & Process Development: Ensure that Market Operators have the necessary tools to perform their duties. Create manual tools and processes to temporarily address issues with market software. Subject Matter Expertise: Provide subject matter expertise on the DAM function, offering support for external training efforts and representing the DAMKT management during decision-making processes. Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all software, policies, and business practices related to the Day-Ahead Market are compliant with SPP Market Protocols and Tariffs. Maintain and ensure compliance with desk procedures, SOC-1 controls, and other applicable standards. Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with operations staff, support teams, and external stakeholders such as External Training and Congestion Hedging to ensure cross-functional success. Participate in various SPP committees and working groups. Back-Up Support: The Sr Engineer should be prepared to step in and perform the functions of the Day Ahead Market Operator as needed, providing backup support during peak times or staff absences. To be successful in the role we're looking for: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should: Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation), The degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field, and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering Sr Engineer - Five (5) years of relevant engineering experience, a professional engineer license, or an advanced degree may satisfy the requirement for one year of experience. Engineer II - Two (2) years of relevant Engineering experience Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills along with good written and verbal communication skills Understand and comply with SPP Policies and Procedures Preferred: Electric utility industry or market experience Proficient with SPP tools and/or processes Sound understanding of the SPP Tariff and Protocols Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.
