Responsibilities Mainspring Energy is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge products and is looking for a seasoned Manufacturing Engineer with significant experience in developing scaled manufacturing tooling and automation systems, capable of setting up the next factories and will report to the NPI Senior Manager. We are seeking an innovative and highly skilled Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of precision tooling, material handling systems, and automation solutions for scaled production of a groundbreaking large electromechanical machine. This role will be critical in ensuring the successful manufacturing of high-precision components and assemblies at scale, focusing on quality, efficiency, and cost optimization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in precision fixture design, automation systems, and material handling solutions such as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), overhead lift assist systems, and robotic cells. Experience in precision measurement and laser-based assembly processes is a significant advantage. Additionally, this role requires end-to-end ownership, including sourcing, assembly, commissioning, and installation of designed systems. Your critical contribution will be rewarding and directly enable Mainspring's aggressive growth targets. Key activities will include the following: Design and Development: Lead the design of high-precision fixtures, tools, and equipment for electromechanical assembly and testing. Develop material handling solutions, including AGVs, overhead lift assist systems, and custom conveyors. Implement precision measuring systems and laser alignment processes for high-tolerance assembly. Ensure all tooling and equipment meet rigorous quality and performance standards. Vendor and Project Management: Manage end-to-end project execution, from concept through installation and commissioning. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, and procurement, to align manufacturing solutions with product requirements. Layout planning for future factory design initiatives and collect and document product and process requirements to feed equipment and tooling design and also define the process readiness for automation introduction. Oversee the manufacturing and assembly of designed tooling and equipment, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met. DFM and Process Planning: Contribute to new product development and collaborate with design engineers, offering expertise in manufacturability (DFM/DFX) and cost-effectiveness of new mechanical components designs. Utilize DOE, PFMEA, 8D and other industry-standard tools and techniques to actively identify and address risks and optimize process parameters. Assess the sustainability of a fabrication technology for a given part design, plan validation experiments to demonstrate initial feasibility as well as manufacturing capabilities. Analyze the result and provide technical recommendations. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on tooling and automation. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or AutoCAD) for tooling and fixture design. Strong knowledge of material handling systems and automation technologies, including robotics and PLCs. Familiarity with precision measuring systems, laser alignment tools, and GD&T principles. Direct hands-on experience going through at least 1 complete cycle from new product introduction to manufacturing process set-up, excellent communication, collaboration, organizational and prioritization skills. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) capability is a plus. Willing and able to travel internationally up to 15%. The Bay Area salary for this role is $120k-$135k base salary + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position is on-site (hybrid) in Menlo Park, CA.
