Digital Plant Architect Job Description Your Role The Digital Plant Architect is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of digital plant target architecture and related technologies and support digital plant IT program management & roadmap execution in the company. The role is to bridge the gap between traditional manufacturing and digital/IT solutions, using advanced digital tools and techniques to enable connected plant and realize the paperless operations and develop the technology roadmap towards smart manufacturing. This role plays a crucial part from IT side in collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g. OT, engineering, automation, plant operation team, QC, etc.) to integrate IT/OT systems into plant operations, optimize plant operations, support decision making processes, as well as ensure seamless connectivity, scalability, and efficiency and transform traditional manufacturing into smart, connected and data-driven environment. Location: Burlington, MA or St. Louis, MO - Hybrid Key Responsibilities A. Technical Architecture Development Design end-to-end digital plant target architectures and data structure to ensure data interoperability and achieve paperless factory operations. Integrate key technologies such as PLCs, SCADA systems, Environmental Monitoring Systems, Building Management Systems, Data Historians, MES, EBR, ERP production modules, and digital worker tools like DDMS and OEE. Design interfaces and data transfer mechanisms to connect the shopfloor systems with existing enterprise systems, such as ERP and MES. Ensure interoperability and seamless communication between IT and OT systems. Research and evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation in digital plant area. Oversee the deployment of digital/IT solutions like MES, EBR, Data Historian, etc., ensuring they meet performance, cost, and timeline requirements. Lead digital plant IT solution / technology governance and optimization, review business process and functional requirements to optimize the solution architecture, recommend potential options, select the most optimal option, and develop a roadmap for the selected solution, ensure the proposed solutions fulfill functional requirements and comply with technology solution standards. B. Process mapping and data flow design Develop an integrated IT/OT process map spanning Level 0 to Level 4 of the ISA-95 model, considering existing processes and future trends in terms of the required business capabilities for a digital plant and lighthouse. Assess existing processes and incorporate future trends to design systems supporting business capabilities for a digital plant. Oversee and map out how production data flow from sensors on machines to order details in ERP system, from shop floor devices to back-end systems, and design a general data flow in terms of overall production process value chain. C. Program Management and Project Execution Lead or contribute to digital plant program and its related projects, from planning and requirements gathering to implementation and deployment. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including plant managers, engineers, software vendors, and contractors, to ensure project goals are met. Present digital plant concepts, progress, and results to non-technical stakeholders, translating complex technical information into understandable terms. Minimum Qualifications Educational Background A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or industrial), or a related field. Work Experience At least 5 years of experience in digital plant solutions design and implementation. Proven experiences with MES, EBR, Data Historian and digital workers technology. Deep understanding overall IT/OT technologies and processes, from level 0 to level 4. Familiarity with IoT technologies, data analytics, and machine learning concepts. Preferred Qualifications Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex shop floor problems into digital solutions. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C# for data process and system integration. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills of communications, coordination, and facilitations to work closely with cross-functional teams like production, engineering, automation, OT and IT global teams.
