MAJOR FUNCTIONS The Estimator has a minimum of 5 years experience reading civil plans, performing take-offs, obtaining necessary materials pricing from suppliers, and compiling a complete project estimate aligned with the required scope of work. Compensation is based on experience and includes performance-based bonus opportunities.ESSENTIAL DUTIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Work the entire life cycle of a bid from bid invitation to finalizing bid proposal for submission to completion of project. Analyze and review construction documents: plans, bid documents, geotechnical reports, job specifications, addendums, etc. Identify scope of work and perform quantity takeoffs of site, civil, and underground utility. Conduct project site visits and attend pre-bid site meetings during bidding process to learn scope of work and understand site conditions/restrictions. Solicit and review proposals from material vendors and subcontractors to ensure accuracy, evaluate responses, scope compliance, and make recommendations with regards to the overall project estimate and bid. Develop preliminary construction schedules based on the project information provided in the plans. Maintain a highly organized work area, meet critical deadlines, prioritize daily activities. Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with a strong attention to detail. Works hands-on and independently, as well as being an effective part of the estimating/project management team. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Must have experience effectively managing the entire bid process from inception to completion, including mass excavation, drainage systems, and underground utilities. Working field knowledge of all project phases. Ability to identify construction issues and display proficiency in reading blueprints. Ability to assess site exposures/construction risks and appropriately analyze cost. Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic designs. Ability to produce a detailed final contract. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. Familiar with CAD Software or the ability to learn. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 5 years of experience working for Site Contractor bidding on primarily private site improvement projects. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
