DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will be responsible for conducting maintenance work on a wide range of construction equipment, specifically diesel-powered vehicles and related machinery. You will be involved in performing both major and minor repairs, as well as conducting regular preventive maintenance on diesel engines and fuel injection systems for small and large loaders, riding tractors, and other equipment. You will also be responsible for repairing, rebuilding, and replacing damaged or broken parts of diesel engines. Furthermore, you will required to conduct tests on diesel engines to diagnose and troubleshoot any issues, whether they are due to defective operations or mechanical failure. Other duties may include repairing and overhauling diesel engines and equipment such as backhoes, loaders, sickle bars, and other large tractors. Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting safety inspections on power-driven vehicles to ensure compliance with regulations. Interested in learning more? REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirement: You must possess an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification. Additional Requirements: You must be willing to travel to sites of disabled or damaged state-owned vehicles throughout Pennsylvania. You must possess a valid Class C driver's license. You must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within one year of employment and maintain license throughout employment. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Automotive Inspection license Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Emissions Certificate Experience in the automotive mechanic trade repairing or overhauling and maintaining major automotive systems and components of vehicles such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, power shovels, graders, etc. Experience in the repair and replacement of suspension components such as ball joints, control arms, idler arms, Pitman arms, wheel bearings, etc. Experience in the repair and replacement of brake system components; disc brakes, drum brakes, calipers, cylinders, etc. Experience in the maintenance and replacement of electrical systems, alternators, batteries, ignitions, etc. Experience in the maintenance and replacement of cooling system components, hoses, belts, fans, water pumps, etc. Experience in the repair and replacement of engines, exhaust systems, transmissions, and differentials Experience in performing preventative maintenance duties such as tune-ups, tire changes, and oil changes Experience performing annual state inspections for safety on vehicles Experience operating a vehicle hauler or roll-back transporter Experience examining and assessing accident damage to vehicles Legal Requirements: A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
