Executive Chef - Golden Steer Steakhouse (New York) Location: New York, NY Position Type: Full-Time Reports To: Owner/Executive Leadership About Us The Golden Steer Steakhouse is a legendary fine dining institution known for its rich history, impeccable service, and exceptional steaks. We are seeking an Executive Chef who will honor our time-honored recipes while incorporating innovation where it enhances the experience. Job Summary The Executive Chef will be responsible for all culinary operations, ensuring that Golden Steer New York maintains the highest standards of quality, consistency, and execution. This role requires an experienced leader with a deep understanding of fine dining, USDA Prime steaks, classic steakhouse cuisine, and high-volume kitchens . The ideal candidate will have the ability to balance tradition with precision , uphold the restaurant's legacy, and oversee a kitchen that delivers an uncompromising, world-class dining experience . Key Responsibilities Culinary Leadership and Menu Execution: Lead all kitchen operations , ensuring the preparation of consistently exceptional steaks, seafood, and classic steakhouse dishes . Execute Golden Steer's signature menu , preserving its historical authenticity while refining techniques for the NYC market. Develop and train the kitchen team on butchery, precise steak preparation, and traditional sauces . Work closely with the General Manager and ownership to source premium ingredients, maintain supplier relationships, and control food costs . Operational and Kitchen Management: Establish and maintain strict kitchen protocols for efficiency, consistency, and cleanliness. Uphold all NYC Department of Health and HACCP standards to ensure the highest level of food safety and sanitation. Develop and implement systems for food prep, inventory management, and quality control to optimize kitchen performance. Oversee kitchen labor scheduling, ensuring adequate staffing while maintaining labor cost targets. Team Development and Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing culinary team , fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism, and respect . Conduct regular staff training on knife skills, plating, temperature control, and service timing . Cultivate a team that thrives under high-pressure, high-volume service , delivering precision and consistency in every dish. Financial and Business Strategy: Manage food costs and drive profitability through effective inventory control, portioning, and waste reduction strategies . Work with ownership to refine menu pricing and cost structure , ensuring profitability without compromising quality . Analyze sales reports, guest feedback, and kitchen efficiency metrics to continuously refine operations. Guest Experience and Brand Representation: Ensure every plate leaving the kitchen is executed at the highest level, meeting Golden Steer's unwavering standards . Be present in the dining room when appropriate, engaging with guests and representing the kitchen team. Work with PR and marketing efforts for chef-driven events, media opportunities, and partnerships . Qualifications and Experience Minimum 7+ years of experience as an Executive Chef or Chef de Cuisine in a high-volume, fine dining steakhouse or similar luxury restaurant. Expertise in classic steakhouse techniques, butchery, prime beef selection, and seafood preparation. Proven experience in opening and/or launching a new restaurant location is a plus. Deep knowledge of NYC restaurant industry trends, health codes, and fine dining service expectations . Ability to lead a fast-paced kitchen while maintaining focus on consistency, guest satisfaction, and operational efficiency . Experience working with vendors, purveyors, and premium ingredient sourcing . Exceptional organizational skills, leadership ability, and a passion for mentorship.
