Garden Nursery Merchandiser

Hicks Nurseries is a $40 million revenue, single-location retail, and wholesale garden center in Westbury, NY. We are the largest garden center on Long Island! We are seeking Nursery Merchandisers for our busy Spring season! Come grow with us! Must be available on the weekends. Must be capable of learning and operating a forklift. We will train. Objective: Maintain merchandise and displays in our Nursery yard. Key Responsibilities: * Straighten product displays. * Ensure merchandise and fixtures are clean. * Consolidate merchandise. * Assist with maintaining appropriate signage. * Assist with watering and caring for live material when required. * Pull sold material and place in proper holding area(s). * Restock and reset merchandise displays. * Clean shelves, tables, beds, and display areas prior to restocking. * Put merchandise onto/into tables, beds, and displays. * Maintain hard good tie-in displays in green good areas. * Promptly dispose of garbage and debris. * Assist with watering and care for live material when required. * Hang appropriate signage. Provide customer service. * Assist customers at the Nursery Pick-Up Area by confirming purchases, loading vehicles, and finalizing transactions, following documented processes and procedures. * Acknowledge customers. * Assist customers by answering questions and directing them. * Assist customers on the telephone in a courteous, helpful manner. * Assist cashiers with merchandise pricing questions. * Sell merchandise. * Ask questions to determine customer needs. * Educate customers on product choices and usage. * Suggest additional items that complement their purchase (tie-in sales). * Assist with seasonal set-ups. Build fixtures. Lay out initial set for seasonal merchandise. * Effective communication skills * Attention to detail * Able to juggle multiple tasks * Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, in person and on the telephone * Ability to operate a forklift safely and effectively - we will train Position Preferences * High school degree or equivalent
