This person will lead and oversee the Product Development Department and is responsible for all major activities relating to the development and launching of products for Briogeo including ideation, NPD formulation, reformulations of existing SKUs, packaging sourcing, regulatory testing + claims, global formula compliance, international registrations, and time/risk management.The position requires strong communication skills for external vendor relationships and internal cross functional partnerships, creative and analytical thinking to drive innovation, and a pulse on industry trends and overall beauty business.Key ResponsibilitiesHelping the company achieve growth targets through strategic, first-to-market innovation to expand the product portfolio and manage the 3-year innovation pipeline in partnership with Marketing.Ensuring formulas are developed in accordance with retailer, brand, and Wella standards for a successful launch and partnership.Ideating new concepts in partnership with Marketing, with innovative textures, breakthrough raw materials, product format trends, and unique delivery systems.Setting COG targets, and ensuring COGs are met.Maximizing relationships with preferred global vendors and contract manufacturers, while exploring new potential partnerships for growth.Encouraging the team to innovate, inform and improve product with brand pillars at the forefront.Setting formula standards for PD + Quality to follow up to 3rd production batch.Managing PD expenses and budgets.Ensuring all regulatory is being tracked for all new products, tests and claims are substantiated, and products can be legally launched in the global territories that they are marketed.Supporting development of backup suppliers through vendor relation management.Problem solving for unforeseen obstacles.Overseeing product development timelines and escalating risks for brand decisions to stay on time.Implementing continued improvements and cost saving initiatives.Legal liaison with Wella for IP, trademarks and claims.Lead sustainability initiatives for brand as it relates to product.Manage high functioning team: formula developers, packaging sourcing, NPD commercialization, NPD project management, and regulatory.Requirements4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.15+ years of previous successful product development; Hair care product development required.At least 15% travel is expected in this position.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.Ideal candidate would have proven track record for people management.Candidate must be extremely collaborative and have ability to coordinate seamlessly with cross-functional partners.Must have experience working with and briefing contract manufacturers, fragrance houses, testing facilities, packaging vendors, etc.Demonstration of strong project management skill, proven leadership skills, and a good knowledge of internal business practices.Excellent planning, communication, and presentation skills.About BriogeoAt Briogeo, we are on a mission to empower every person to succeed on their unique healthy hair journey. Pay Range: $180,000 - $190,000 salary per year. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees.
