Bay Cities Pet Hospital is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community with a heightened focus on dentistry and surgical assistance. As a VA, you'll play an important role in pets' lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients. Experience & Skills Requirements: * Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients. * With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow. Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts. * Must be able to take accurate and complete patient vitals * Assist with patient surgical procedures - pre-op and post-op * Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments. * Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. * Guide, mentor, and support fellow team members. * Must be able to obtain and process lab samples (i.e blood, urine, fecal, etc) * Must assist and support boarding patients and participate in general housekeeping protocols. * Must be able to obtain Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit within the first 90 days of employment. * Be able to perform dental procedures alongside the doctor - inclusive of cleaning/scaling, performing dental radiographs and participate and patient anesthesia monitoring and recovery. * Knowledge of isolation procedures and protocol and cleaning of isolation rooms and contaminated treatment area or exam room. * Must have at least 5 years of experience in veterinary medicine. Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at"¯$22 -"¯$29 /"¯hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, licensing and experience.
