Position Type: Transportation/Transportation - Tech II Date Posted: 1/22/2025 Location: Service Center Additional Information: Show/Hide Job Title: Transportation Technician II Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Reports to: Fleet Maintenance Foreman Pay Grade: DO 5 - 226 days Dept./School: Transportation Date Revised: January 21, 2025 Primary Purpose: Perform major and minor mechanical repairs with minim supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Perform assigned work following established policies and procedures. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent (ex: G.E.D.) Valid Texas commercial driver's license, Class A or B with "P" and "S" endorsements Current DPS certification for School Bus Drivers Basic knowledge of school bus/automotive mechanical components Special Knowledge/Skills: Must be able to diagnose and Troubleshoot and Effect repairs for all district vehicles, including: Removal and replacement of engines, fuel systems, Electrical, Diagnose Transmissions RR Knowledge of Service Maxx, Diamond Logic builder, Cummins In-site, Mercedes, Detroit, Alison doc programs. After treatment systems including EGR Valves EGR Coolers, SCR, DPF. DOC and Injector Diagnostics. Turbo Chargers-Cylinder Cutout test-Leak down test-High Pressure pump test-ICP & IPR. Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and perform repairs with supervision Ability to operate tools and equipment involved in vehicle repair Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts Ability to pass alcohol and drug test Ability to pass required bus driver safety training Acceptable driving record Ability to operate a school bus Acceptable communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills Possess a willingness to progress to mechanical level with training Preferred Experience: Minimum two (2) years auto/truck maintenance and repair experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: Maintenance and Repair * Service vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule. Rotate and balance tires, change oil and filters, lubricate vehicle parts, inspect and replace hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps, and maintain all fluid levels. * Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance * Diagnoses mechanical problems of vehicles. * Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles. * Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures * Promotes high standards of safety and acceptable housekeeping methods in all working areas. * Performs mechanical duties such as a general mechanics functions and recognition and repair of all safety equipment. * Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately * Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and services. * Uses time wisely to ensure productivity and efficiency. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Automotive diagnostic equipment; wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding torch; torque wrench; jack and lift equipment; Engine Hoist; computer and peripherals; school bus and district vehicles.
