Position Summary The Financial Consulting & Farm Transition Specialist position is responsible for assisting farmers by delivering services available from the Wisconsin Farm Center. The position performs highly skilled professional work to assist new, current, and exiting/retiring farmers maintain and enhance farm economic performance. Primary duties include: * Providing direct services to farmers seeking financial advice and/or farm transition planning support. * Analyzing farm financial data, business productivity and structure. * Reviewing balance sheets, earnings statements, and cash flow projections to answer questions, problem-solve, and develop recommendations. * Developing "what if" scenarios to help farmers identify resources and evaluate management options to make informed decisions. * Working with lenders, consultants, or other organizations to identify operational alternatives for farmers to help pursue greater sustainability. * Assisting farmers prepare for financial reviews or mediation processes with family members, business partners, lenders, advisors, consultants, service providers, etc. * Advising farmers and their families on effective transition plans. * The position is also responsible for outreach activities related to farm finance and transition planning, such as delivering presentations at in-person or virtual meetings. Salary Information The classification for this position is Agriculture Program Specialist-Senior which is in schedule-range 07-03 with starting pay will be between $26.87 - $30.92 per hour based on qualifications. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required. Job Details DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States. A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license or the ability to provide one's own transportation for work purposes is required. Regular in-state travel of approximately 20% of the time with occasional overnight stays, is required. Qualifications Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following: * Education or experience with agriculture economics, farming, and farm financial planning or farm business development. * Experience assisting farmers with financial analysis and evaluating planning options or demonstrated ability to make effective farm management decisions. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following: * Experience working with agricultural lending and familiarity with available funding sources. * Experience with techniques commonly used to transfer management responsibilities and ownership of farm assets including but not limited to, buy-sell agreements, differentiation of business entity structures, gifting, lease agreements, operating agreements, and trusts. * Experience researching farm programs and resources to make effective recommendations and referrals to farmers.
