JOB SUMMARYWork independently performing laboratory and phlebotomy procedures. Duties include drawing blood from patients, following prescribed policies for blood and body fluid testing, assisting in statistical data collection, interpreting quality control, and documentation of appropriate material within Cerner and Peer Group. Has joint responsibility, along with the Laboratory Director, for overseeing quality control and maintenance on all laboratory analyzers and ensuring acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. The Laboratory Supervisor will also be responsible for adding to the laboratory test menu, new analyzer start up, and troubleshooting problems in the laboratory department. Other responsibilities include ensuring compliance with CAP accreditation and updating laboratory policies and procedures as needed. The Laboratory Supervisor will also meet the requirements of a Medical Laboratory Technician. Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge & ExperienceSkills-Ability to prioritize, good communication and interpersonal skills, maintain professional composure in all situations.Knowledge-General working knowledge of laboratory and operations.Education-Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology program from an accredited institution. Must include: At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent that at a minimum, includes either-(1) 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or (2) 24 semester hours of science courses that include-(i) Six semester hours of chemistry; (ii) Six semester hours of biology; and (iii) Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.Experience-At least two years of laboratory experience in high complexity testing.Authority and AccountabilityExtensive exposure to confidential information or matters. Frequent contact with various persons or groups within and outside of the hospital including employees, department directors, physicians, patients, visitors and outside agency personnel. Must be able to work with, communicate with, and coordinate different types of personalities.AptitudesMust be able to prioritize, utilize critical thinking, and adjust to change. Must be able to reason and use logical problem-solving skills. Performs duties that require some latitude for independent judgment and initiative in handling situations out of the ordinary.
