What You Will Do As a Park Ranger, you will perform a wide variety of duties supporting Piney Run Park operations. You will provide park security presence, monitor visitor activities, and perform custodial tasks in addition to other opening and closing duties. The work you do will ensure County Park grounds and facilities are clean, sanitary, physically safe and orderly, in compliance with park rules and regulations. Essential Duties * Patrol and inspect assigned park areas by foot, bike, or vehicle to provide visible security for park users and park facilities. Assist in the identification and resolution of park security issues. * Communicate with the public on matters of park rules and regulations. * Open park, assess park grounds and shelters to determine if maintenance or clean-up is needed prior to visitor use. Perform clean-up tasks to include trash pick-up and removal, bathroom and nature center cleaning and servicing. * Secure parks at closing time by ensuring that all visitors have left, all buildings are secure, and gates are locked. * Observes and assists with the care for the live educational animal collection; maintains animal enclosures. May assist with the development and presentation of interpretative and environmental education programs. * Conduct routine checks of facility conditions, lighting, cleanliness, and safety/emergency equipment. * Operate a computer and cash register to accurately process cash transactions. * Assist in training and mentoring of park rangers, volunteers, and park assistants. * Assist with special events, including supporting crowd control and parking at large park events. * Provide park visitors with information pertaining to facility reservations, park events, and other activities. Assist with reservation conflicts, maintenance issues, safety issues, and facility rental concerns. * Organize and oversee volunteer and community service groups in enhancements and clean-up projects. * Support manager on duty, as needed. Serve as daily Duty Ranger to provide oversight to all aspects of park operations in assigned settings. * Invite collaboration and seek learning opportunities. Required Licenses and Certifications * Valid driver's license * CPR, AED, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certification (or must obtain within 3 months of employment) * Boater Safety certification (or must obtain within 2 months of employment) Additional Information * Flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. * Requires criminal background check as condition of employment. Working Conditions * Daily exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions. * Work includes daily physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders, and related activities. * Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
