POSITION The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) values the mission of Saint Thomas Academy and will bring financial expertise, successful leadership, and collaboration to the role. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the President. The qualified candidate will embrace the mission of Saint Thomas Academy. JOB DESCRIPTION The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities related to the school, including direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, budgeting, legal, human resources, building operations, and risk management. This position ensures the financial sustainability of the institution while collaborating with the President, Board of Trustees, Administration, and Finance Committee on the development and monitoring of the school's annual operating budget and endowment. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Lead the financial, business, and operational affairs of the school, ensuring alignment with the school's mission, vision, and goals. Effectively manage the school's finances with a focus on thoughtfully allocating and balancing resources to meet the needs and priorities of different departments. Oversee investment, accounting, cash management, and budgeting in accordance with applicable regulations and generally accepted accounting principles. Consult with and advise members of the Finance Committee and Leadership Team on the preparation of the annual operating budget and long-term forecasting needs of the school. Administer the annual operating budget, including reviewing budget versus actuals, overseeing tuition billing, accounts payable, treasury operations, endowment investments, payroll, and benefits, and identifying any financial risk to the operation. Manage the Business Office staff, Human Resources Manager, and Facilities Director. Administer the auditing function by ensuring compliance with the school's policies and procedures while supporting the direct interaction of this function with the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors. Implement and maintain all financial systems of the school, including the general ledger, budget development, treasury operations, investment tracking, accounts payable, student billing, and miscellaneous receipts, as well as policies, procedures, and controls to maximize efficiency and productivity. Responsible for the annual review and renewal of all insurance coverage, including general liability, property, casualty, and workers' compensation. Collaborate with the Admissions Department to administer the financial aid process, ensuring fairness, transparency, and accessibility coordinating quality control measures, including randomized reviews to verify accuracy, compliance, and integrity. Manage overall tuition receivables; ensure policies are in place to mitigate past-due tuition balances. Work with the Advancement Department and President to align financial strategies with fundraising efforts. Oversee all legal issues and other counsel relationships. Keep abreast of existing and pending legislation that may affect the school. Serve on the Finance and Investment and Building and Grounds Sub-Committees of the Board. Building and Grounds Manage the organization's physical infrastructure, including plant, exterior fields, and grounds, and system maintenance (security, cleaning, supplies, etc.) in collaboration with the Facilities Director to ensure the facilities and grounds are maintained in a manner that reflects well on the school. Identify and recommend needed capital expenditures to maintain or enhance physical infrastructure functionality. Human Resources Coordinate with the Leadership Team regarding staffing needs in planning, recruitment, selection, training, development, compensation, and evaluation. Ensure appropriate controls are in place to manage payroll. Collaborate with insurance brokers to renew medical insurance plans and communicate updates with faculty and staff. Lead listening sessions on an annual basis with faculty and staff to understand compensation-related priorities. Other Responsibilities Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment that encourages interaction and cooperation within and across departments. Manage all auxiliary services of the school (such as outside food vendor), ensuring they provide quality service within the planned budget. Conduct and perform other business related duties of the school as needed.
