JOB OVERVIEW Job Description Summary: The Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) at the George Washington University (GWU) offers certificate, masters, and doctoral degrees in a range of academic programs for general and special education teacher preparation, curriculum development, educational administration, counseling, and human and organizational learning. Our students emerge from our programs enriched in theory and practice and become agents of change across the learning lifespan. GSEHD's Office of Admissions is seeking a Director of Admissions. This position reports to the Associate Dean and is expected to use institutional and market data to inform the admissions practices of the School. The Director will play a critical role leveraging interpersonal and presentation skills and understanding of the University enrollment goals by designing and implementing effective outreach, recruitment, admissions, and marketing strategies for prospective students considering on-campus, off-campus, hybrid, and online programs. This individual will be a key strategic leader in Recruitment and Admissions, with broad responsibility and accountability for recruitment and admission for all GSEHD programs. Key responsibilities include: Supervises, trains, manages, and evaluates all regular Admissions staff and provides guidance on their professional responsibilities, including management of special events, travel, and presentations to students. Collaborates with Admissions staff to evaluate market trends, identify goals, develop creative content, and supervise implementation of an annual recruitment and marketing plan. Monitors and updates plans to assure goals are achieved. Manages financial aid, fellowships, and endowment awards in collaboration with the deans, faculty, and University officials. Works closely with the GSEHD leadership to set enrollment targets and develop and implement specific processes for the timely processing of applications. Collaborates with University enrollment and admissions offices as needed. Develops and implements strategies and processes for the entire application life cycle from interest through enrollment, including nurturing leads and admitted applicants to increase yields. Collaborates with the Assistant Dean of Student Life and the GSEHD Student Success team on the transition from admission to matriculation. Facilitates continuous improvement of recruitment and admissions processes informed by the internal and external information derived from trends and best practices in the professions. Creates meaningful dashboards and reports to keep all stakeholders informed of progress in recruitment and admissions. In concert with the Associate Dean, manages GSEHD's advertising partnerships. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Travel required for GSEHD related events may be up to 25%. This is a hybrid position with some days in-person in Washington, DC, and some days remote. Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree preferred. Prior leadership experience; ability to build and manage a team. Experience in admissions at the graduate level is highly preferred. Experience marketing academic programs with ability to use persuasive sales/marketing techniques. Experience using Slate CRM software to analyze enrollment trends, manage the application process, and improve communication with prospective students. Experience implementing and developing new systems, programs and executing strategies. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; strong customer focus and relationship building skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure, ambiguity, and conflicting goals. Able to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, facilitate decision making and conflict resolution, maintain a positive and constructive demeanor treating all staff, students, faculty, and vendors with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.
