Responsibilities As a Senior Engineer (Damage Control, Safety) Knowledge Based Systems with AMERICAN SYSTEMS, you will have the opportunity to do the following: Provide Senior Engineering expertise and leadership in acquisition of engineering and technical Knowledge Based Services (KBS) in support of NSWCCD Code 80, other NSWCCD Codes, and NSWCCD sponsors to achieve its mission of research, design and development, test and evaluation, and ongoing operational assessment of model-scale and full-scale surface ships, submarines, small craft, and specialized platforms including sea based aviation and off-board systems. Provide Senior Engineering support to Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division's (NSWCCD) Naval Architecture and Engineering Department (Code 80) in all areas of the PWS including research, engineering and naval architecture on surface ships, submarines, small craft, specialized platforms including sea based aviation platforms and off-board systems. Travel to other work sites including Washington, DC; The Large Cavitation Channel in Millington, TN; and Naval and Private Shipyards and Ports. Senior Engineering duties in the following areas: Project Management Electronic Document Library (eDL) Meetings and In-Progress Reviews (IPR) Programmatic Support Senior Engineering Duties in the following Task Areas: Research and Development (R&D) Support Hydrodynamics and Aerodynamics Engineering Support Design and Development Systems Engineering Support Support of On-Site Test and Fabrication Facilities Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Support Design Documentation and Technical Data Support T&E Support CDRL Deliverables Government Furnished Property (GFP) and GFI Qualifications Bachelor's degree in one of the following engineering disciplines: Aerospace, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Marine (also known as "Ocean"), or Naval Architecture (also known as "Naval Engineering"). Six (6) years of U.S. Navy fleet operational experience with shipboard damage control systems. Must have served as Senior Enlisted Damage Controlman or equivalent. Approximately twenty (20) years of verifiable experience participating in the operation of, research, development, test and evaluation of platforms and systems regarding ship survivability through the use of damage control techniques. The 20 years of experience must include at least some experience in all of the following: Installing firefighting systems and equipment, shipboard damage control practice, ventilation, fundamentals of ship stability, fire main and drainage, communication, emergency breathing apparatus, de-smoking and gas analyzing systems. Providing damage control training. Evaluating damage control procedures and performance. Utilizing Total Ship Survivability Trials (TSSTs) to evaluate ship design for recoverability based on simulated weapons damage assuming a fully trained crew. Utilizing Vulnerability Assessment Reports (VAR) and Survivability Assessment Reports (SAR) to evaluate ship survivability against enemy threats. Utilizing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) in conjunction with surrogate threats. Working with Damage Scenario-Based Engineering Analysis (DSBEA) including single threat survivability studies utilizing M&S to determine the ship recoverability from a specific threat shot line and predict mission capability after impact. The salary range for this position is USD $110,600.00/Yr. - USD $232,600.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
