Summary The Technical Advisor, Maritime Policy, an exempt position, in consultation with CLIA Members, recommends, develops, presents, negotiates and implements industry positions on legislative, regulatory and policy matters involving shipboard operations; safety; security; emergency response; plans and exercises; and legal affairs; as well as other matters impacting the cruise industry as directed by the Vice President, Maritime Policy. Essential Job Functions Regarding CLIA program matters and other technical & regulatory issues, leads the industry in engaging with senior officials at the international level (such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Labour Organization (ILO), with Federal and state regulatory agencies on appropriate matters, as well as in other venues and in dealing with the maritime and other administration representatives of numerous nations. Collaborates with other members of the Global Maritime Policy team and is responsible for coordinated efforts both internally, and with other industry associations, on related policy matters. Facilitates, in collaboration with other Maritime Policy staff, the relevant Committee, Working Group, and other similar group meetings. Provides advice and consultation concerning areas of expertise to the Maritime Policy team; other CLIA staff; and Members, as appropriate. In collaboration with other Maritime Policy staff, develops, coordinates, prepares, and presents CLIA policy and negotiates industry positions to and with international, Federal and state regulatory and rule-making bodies, to other industry associations, to foreign governments, to the media, in professional seminars and gatherings and at other venues as necessary. Coordinates with other associations and organizations in dealing with cruise industry matters that are also of interest to those segments of the shipping industry. Participates in Federal Advisory committee and other public meetings as appropriate. Monitors technical consultants as necessary. Invited lecturer and expert for Cruise Industry matters at special seminars, training, and other events as directed by the Vice President, Maritime Policy. Advises and assists in coordinating, preparing, and executing CLIA functions such as Executive Partner or Seatrade events; organizes and moderates panels as appropriate. Assists with matters directly associated with management of the Maritime Policy team, including developing newsletter and website content. Other duties as assigned. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor's level degree. 0-4+ years of job-related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualifications: Technical training and experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously. Background and experience in relevant aspects of shipboard operations, engineering, ship design and construction is preferred. Basic proficiency in MS Office applications. Work Environment: This position is based in our DC office as part of a hybrid work environment with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. While on work-related travel, there are often obligations outside of normal business hours (e.g. evening meetings and presentations, networking receipts, etc.) The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Travel Required Approximately 30% of time is spent on work-related travel, including international travel.
