JOB SUMMARY - Project Engineers perform responsible engineering, technical, and administrative work related to planning, design, construction and inspection of water and wastewater facilities. Does related work as required. Instructions may be provided to assist departmental personnel on specific work activities. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Engineering Manager. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Responsible for managing the site plan review process in coordination with the City, Albemarle County, and the Service Authority; Review of plans for compliance with standards of practice; Maintaining all site plans, review records and the tracking database and GIS records; Review of capacity certifications; coordinating with other staff on inspection services for construction such as relocations, taps, and connections; Performs review and coordination of VDOT roadway modification plans; Assists in the development and maintenance of Design Standards and Policies; Assists in department operational activities such as Miss Utility marking, line maintenance, mapping, and GIS development; Prepares in-house technical evaluations and reports as required; Maintains the ability to work with and incorporate technical reference material including current AWWA Standards, VDOT Work Area Safety Manual, and construction manuals, construction references, and construction materials and methods; Assists senior staff and other departments with review, analyses, design, and construction of departmental capital and/or maintenance projects; Performs related tasks as required. Project Engineer Title & Salary Range : Salary starts at $75,000/year, and ranges to $126,000/year depending on education and experience. MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and/or Construction Engineering. Registration as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or the ability to do so within 12 months). Work experience in the engineering field desired, although not required. Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of Engineering related to the area assigned; Thorough knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction and maintenance of public improvements; General knowledge of land surveying methods and techniques; Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of Engineering CADD; Ability to manage and instruct other personnel in proper work methods; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, employees, community partners, and community members in the general public. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Ability to read and write English sufficient to perform the duties of the job, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to use common engineering formulas and theory. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems. Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to climb, balance, sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch, in accordance with applicable safety regulations and guidelines. While performing this job, the employee may occasionally climb stairs, climb ladders, traverse catwalks, and/or travel in elevated, and/or remote locations, taking into account all necessary safety precautions and equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to hear, feel, smell, and speak, ensuring effective communication and awareness of surroundings. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds, adhering to proper lifting techniques and utilizing available equipment as necessary. While performing the duties of this job, the employee requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, ensuring full awareness of surroundings and tasks at hand. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed in an office environment, but tasks may also involve frequent operation of a vehicle, occasional walking on construction sites, industrial facilities, cross-country easements or dams over difficult terrain, steep slopes and occasionally in inclement weather conditions, including extreme outside temperatures. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, confined spaces, potential explosions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, there is exposure to operating noise and construction noise from time to time. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An employee is an essential employee and must respond to emergencies when needed. Travel to different locations, meetings with regulatory agencies, and/or attending professional or technical meetings is expected. Must be willing to accept assignments based on the needs of the Authority. Must be willing to respond to emergency conditions during off hours and work occasional overtime and a rotating on-call schedule. #J-18808-Ljbffr
