General Labor - Garden Center

Hicks Nurseries is a $40 million revenue, single-location retail, and wholesale garden center in Westbury, NY. We are the largest garden center on Long Island! We are seeking seasonal employees to work in our Nursery yards, Greenhouses and all areas of the company! Come grow with us! Positions begin in late March/April through late June/July depending on the position. Weekend availability is required for some positions. Objective: Efficiently and accurately receive and care for merchandise, primarily plant material. Key Responsibilities: * Assist in the maintenance of plant material, including plant care and merchandising. * Participate in customer service tasks. * Participate in the pulling of material for pick-up and delivery. * Assist in the receiving of merchandise and maintenance of plant material inventory following established processes and procedures. * Includes plant care, spacing of material in the yard, signage, etc. * Depending on the position - Safely operate relevant equipment, such as electric and vehicles, such as forklift or skid steer. (you will be trained) * Provide customer service. * Must be able to consistently lift 25-40 lbs. independently and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. * Ability to handle near-constant physical activity required, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, squeezing, and grasping. * Must be able to push/pull wheeled carts of 400 lbs. consistently. * Ability to verbally communicate effectively in English * Ability to be trained in Hicks Nurseries forklift certification may be required * Ability to be trained in Hicks Nurseries skid steer certification may be required.
