Century and its three main enterprises are all 501 -3 entities.For three decades Century, through creative investments and strategic collaborations, hassuccessfully created and preserved over 60,000 homes, making a meaningful impact oncommunities throughout California.We are looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Team as we get ready for thenext chapter in Century's history of providing finance, affordable housing developmentsand service delivery.Century offers a generous benefits package, and our employees have voted us one of thebest nonprofits to work for.Job Description SummaryThe Chief Operating Officer position will be based at Century's corporate offices in CulverCity, CA.Salary Range: $285-320kWork Setting: Monday - Friday (in-person); Hybrid working model negotiable (in-officefor three days and remote for two days).Summary Of PositionThe Chief Operating Officer (COO) reports directly to the President & CEO and is tasked withmanaging the internal operations of the organization. This role ensures that the organizationis effectively staffed, managed, and governed to fulfill Century's mission and values. The COOoversees the Lending Division, Housing Division, Century Villages of Cabrillo affiliate, HumanResources, IT Department, and overall office operations. Collaborates with the President &CEO and the Senior Management Team to develop and implement externally communicatedgoals and broader organizational goals.Primary ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement systems and processes to support sustainable growth and improve operational efficiency.Oversee cross-departmental operations, ensuring clear communication and accountability across the Lending and Housing Divisions and Century Villages at Cabrillo.Work closely with the President & CEO to shape and execute the company's business strategy, focusing on achieving key operational milestones.Manage day-to-day operations across various departments, ensuring seamless coordination and optimal performance.Ensure effective resource allocation, budget management, and financial oversight to meet company goals and maximize profitability.Collaborate with the CFO to develop and monitor the annual operating budget and long-range financial forecasts, ensuring appropriate staffing levels.Monitor financial performance against the budget and identify cost-saving opportunities.Communicate budget-related issues to the President & CEO and strategize on resolutions.Review and oversee the implementation of cross-departmental programs, policies, and procedures for maximum efficiency.Collaborate with the real estate development team on new affordable housing projects, including site selection, financing, and permitting.Ensure compliance with laws and regulations related to affordable housing, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC).Promote collaboration and communication across departments.Provide coaching and mentoring to staff, conduct performance reviews, and develop goals.Oversee IT operations and manage IT consultants.Oversee Human Resources and manage any consultants.Monitor and evaluate property performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to affordable housing.QualificationsA Master's Degree in Business Administration or Public Administration is required; a Bachelor's Degree in business, community development, or a related field, or equivalent experience is also acceptable.A minimum of 10 years of experience in operational leadership or as a COO in a nonprofit organization is preferred.Demonstrated success in scaling operations, managing cross-functional teams, and overseeing budget management.At least 10 years of experience in the affordable housing or services sector is required.Experience in developing systems, structures, policies, and procedures is essential.Comprehensive understanding of organizational development, human services programs, and management practices.Familiarity with nonprofit finance, affordable housing development, resident services, property management, asset management, human resources, resource development, and community outreach is essential.Experience working with low-income populations is preferred.Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesJob Knowledge: Possesses the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively perform the role.
