Job Description and Duties Under the direction of the Business Services Officer III, the incumbent serves as a member of the facility maintenance support services unit. Responsible for preparing a variety of skilled work in the maintenance, alteration and repair of buildings and mechanical systems. May instruct, lead, or supervise tasks, and do other related work. The Maintenance Mechanic plans and coordinates the work for the repair and maintenance of equipment and minor construction of buildings, structure and utility services within the Center. Maintains and repairs building fixtures and equipment including locks, windows, doors, screens, window coverings and gutters. Replaces bulbs, fluorescent lamps, ballasts and electrical fixtures. Maintains and repairs sewer, water and cooling lines. Repairs roofs, sheetrock, concrete, heating units and paints walls, ceilings and other interior and exterior surfaces. Frames offices and other area separations, installs and finishes sheetrock partitions, primes and paints newly installed surfaces. Prepares openings and hangs doors within the building. Operates automotive equipment and hauls materials. This is a 12-month Limited-Term position, but it may extended for 12 additional months or become permanent. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement. Working Conditions Will work outside in inclement weather and in a temperature controlled environment with LED lighting. This position will use tools, manual and powered and other equipment. May be kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching overhead/above shoulder level, sitting, or using a ladder. This position may be need to access tight crawl spaces, climb on roof of buildings or be on the ground on concrete or in dirt/mud. May predominantly walk, drive in golf cart or stand during normal working hours to perform daily duties, and may be required to lift and carry boxes or tools weighing up to 50 lbs. May be required to drive state fleet vehicles or sit in vehicles with coworkers when going to/from school districts or assessment sites. May be around students with special needs. The DCC operates from a "whole child" perspective focusing on the needs of the students we serve. The DCC is one of three regional assessment centers operated by the State Special Schools and Services Division of the California Department of Education. The Centers provide assessment, training, and technical assistance to all Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in California. The DCC offers highly specialized services in the following areas: * Comprehensive, state-of-the-art assessment and educational planning services to assist local school districts in determining the needs of their most complex students; * On-site technical assistance and consultation in program and instructional design based on the unique needs of each student; * Professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators and special education staff, including presentations at national, statewide, and local conferences and workshops, provided by specialists with "hands-on" experience; * Family education opportunities, including consultation, referral, and resource information.
