Job Description - Director Software Engineering with mobility/delivery provider experience (MAAS/TAAS) (SDS000004)Primary LocationUnited States-Texas-AustinPosition OverviewAs the Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for leading technical teams, including building new teams and structures. You will support the teams in finding the right balance between technical excellence, customer focus, and reliable product delivery. The role includes technical leadership and people management.Role ResponsibilitiesBuild, form and lead world-class teams and their engineering managers in a servant leadership style.Shape and develop the tech architecture and culture.Collaborate proactively with multiple distributed teams (US & Europe).Influence the product roadmap for the ADMT US offer.Deliver software products and microservices for the US market.Translate business and product requirements into software solutions.Oversee all software production releases.Contribute to the software development roadmap and strategic planning.Support in tailoring and deploying software tools, processes, and metrics.Create a culture of incremental software deployment for fast-paced development.Develop strategy and provide expertise support to Global ADMT teams.Spearhead new in-house development projects for various technical domains.Manage relationships with contract manufacturers and lead strategic discussions.Identify and mitigate project technology risks and execution risks.Locate, acquire, and retain extraordinary talent for the Engineering Team.Monitor compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards.Develop and monitor the department budget.Ensure employee qualification for defined tasks.Years of Relevant Experience10+ years of software development or relevant experience.5 years of team leadership/management experience.EducationBachelor's Degree in Engineering or comparable education required.Master's or PhD Degree in Engineering or comparable education preferred.Required Specialized SkillsExcellent strategic thinking, negotiation, and communication skills.Ability to work in highly complex environments.Deep understanding of building digital products and modern software development.Knowledge of software platform development and mass production.Understanding of vehicle EE architectures and automotive development processes.Strong focus on technical architecture and enabling team delivery.Experience in establishing a professional network within the automotive ecosystem.Desired Specialized SkillsExpertise in SW architectures & development in autonomous technologies.Knowledge of VW Group system architecture and roadmap.Experience in rapid prototyping and validation.Understanding of cloud-oriented mobile internet applications.User-interface architecture for mobile and automotive systems.Ability to communicate with top management.Project management of large, complex multi-party projects.Cost-oriented business and technical skills.Management experience in leading a team of hardware and software system experts.Work FlexibilityFrequent travel to worldwide locations required.CompensationThe base salary range for this position is between $250,000 - $280,000, along with a generous bonus structure and other benefits, including a company car.Volkswagen Group of America is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
