Reporting to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, the President and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of the Research Institute is the intellectual scientific leader of the Institute and a key member of the leadership team. Given the Institute's independence and sizable resource base, the President and CSO role is a unique opportunity to advance science and graduate education on the global stage.The Research Institute President and CSO will help shape the strategic direction for the future of the Institute and lead with rigor and strong delegation to realize the Institute's vision. Collaborative, accessible, and innovative, the CSO's primary role will be to manage faculty and core resources to further build the unique assets of the Institute.The President and CSO will work closely with each research department, as well as serve as the President of the Graduate School, to promote interdisciplinary initiatives and outcomes. Key priorities for the next President and CSO include encouraging a culture of collegiality, integrity, and professionalism to nurture the Institute's already healthy culture of trust, teamwork, and accountability, as well as modeling personal behavior and leadership that fosters innovation and excellence for all constituencies.Van Andel Institute seeks a President and CSO of the Research Institute who will capitalize on the unique strengths of the organization and will be ambitious in pursuit of what it is yet to achieve.
