This position serves as the first line supervisor of the Orchard Beach Unit. The Unit consists of Orchard Beach State Park, Tippy Dam Recreation Area, two non-motorized trails (Bestie River Pathway, and Bestie Valley Trail) and eighteen boating access sites. Orchard Beach State Park includes 166 modern campsites, 8 rustic campsites, two rental cabins, 3.5mi hiking trail, and day use area with a reservable historic shelter. Tippy Dam Recreation Area includes 40 rustic campsites, one rental cabin, hiking trail, and two boat launches - the shoreline below the dam is a popular location for anglers. The function of the position is to provide quality recreation opportunities to the public and to preserve and protect the natural and historic resources of the facilities. This position also directs and supervises the day-to-day operations, maintenance and administration of the park, trails and boating programs in compliance with Department and Division policies and procedures. This position serves as the first line Supervisor for 16 employees including two Park Ranger As, two seasonal Park Ranger Es, and 12 State Park Worker 04's. These duties include certification of time and attendance, scheduling, training, and corrective action when needed. This position will supervise and follow-up on assignments, checking quality and quantity of work, coordinate with other Departments and DNR Divisions, work collaboratively with local units of government and agencies. Position Description Education Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school. Experience Park And Recreation Supervisor 10 Four years of park and recreation experience, including one year equivalent to a Park and Recreation Ranger 9 or two years equivalent to a Park and Recreation Ranger E8. Alternate Education and Experience Park And Recreation Supervisor 10 Completion of at least 8 semester or 12 term college credit hours in natural resources, park management, outdoor recreation, law enforcement/criminal justice, or environmental studies may be substituted for one year of experience as a Park and Recreation Ranger-E. Completion of at least 15 semester or 22 term college credit hours in natural resources, park management, outdoor recreation, law enforcement/criminal justice, or environmental studies may be substituted for two years of experience as a Park and Recreation Ranger-E. Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license. Some positions may require certification by the Department of Natural Resources' Park and Recreation Enforcement Commission. Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.
