This position requires the ability to provide support during nights and weekends. GENERAL SUMMARY: Serve as the technical subject matter expert of the Middleware Technology discipline defining standards and policies; manage advanced support issues to ensure high availability; coordinate and communicate middleware activities with application development, infrastructure support, operation teams and external software vendors. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide overall thought leadership for Middleware discipline. Proficient in evaluating new technologies and technical products in the context of business needs, established reference architecture, software packages, installation/configuration, environment provisioning with high availability and load balancing features. Collaborate with application development managers, project managers, and infrastructure teams to plan and coordinate application upgrades, fix packs, installations, configuration modifications and other IT environment changes. Manage Middleware technical deliverables to high quality standard. Conduct root cause analysis for critical and chronic recurring incidents. Ensure the overall effectiveness of software systems and proactively evaluate, recommend and implement cost effective improvements. Evaluate middleware technology against current and future needs and contribute to the development of new principles and concepts. Act as an advisor to management and customers on advanced technical initiatives and applications. Perform research, development and testing of application server middleware and other supporting components/products. Participate in management and technical solution reviews. Support configuration management audits. Responsible for working with development teams on implementation of new middleware features. In addition to the Middleware Administrator principal duties and responsibilities: Establish Web system specifications by analyzing access, information, and security requirements; designing system infrastructure. Establish Web system by planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of middleware software, and operating and system management systems; defining middleware system and operational policies and procedures. Maintain Web system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting system hardware, software, and operating system management systems; designing and running system load/stress testing; escalating application problems to vendor. Secure middleware system by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; discussing and recommending disaster recovery policies and procedures; maintaining documentation. Upgrade middleware system by conferring with vendors and customers; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Accomplish organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Packages and deploys commercial and custom-built Java JEE software into runtime containers. Create Unix shell scripts/Ant scripts to automate application deployment processes. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business or related field. Three (3) years of experience in systems support and systems administration. Two (2) years of experience in Unix systems administration. One (1) year experience with UNIX shell scripting. Two (2) years of experience on SCM tools like Git for branching, merging, tagging and version control management repository. Two (2) years of experience on creating pipelines within Jenkins for Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery processes. One (1) year of experience on Docker container administration. Extensive comprehension of Agile development concepts and practice. Ability to perform as a team player. Must have analytical, design, investigative, planning, organizing, coordinating and follow-through abilities and skills. Must be technically knowledgeable and demonstrate the ability to understand abstract and complex principles of data processing systems. Must be able to work without close supervision to produce quality results in a timely manner. Competent to work at the highest technical levels of all phases of middleware analysis activities. Ability to collect, prepare and present written and oral alternatives for user requests with all levels of Information Services personnel as well as with all levels of user management. Knowledge of business principles and functions to successfully implement application system requests in a timely and efficient manner. A high level of human relation skills in order to be effective in working with people of diverse skills and backgrounds throughout the corporation. Ability to develop in-depth understanding of applications, integration with other applications, such as using API for integration, and inner-workings of application functionality. Ability to articulate application functionality and make system design recommendations to customers. Must display an ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with co-workers and other technical staff. Ability to contribute to strategic planning by identifying potential opportunities and risks as to what might happen. Ability to optimize business processes to support continuous improvement. Ability to assess situations; gather in-depth data, analyze and interpret data to support data driven decision making. Ability to mentor and share knowledge with other team members. Must be able to provide support during nights and weekends. Experience-Preferred: Experience with UNIX operating systems. Five (5) years of experience with administering application server middleware. Three (3) years of experience with DevOps and Platform management experience. Three (3) years of experience with Git or other version control systems. Two (2) years of experience in Salesforce release management. Two (2) years of experience as a Salesforce Administrator. Two (2) years of experience with Service Now ITIL, change management. One (1) year of experience with Apache Ant scripting. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: ITIL Foundations Certification, preferred.
