The purpose of this classification is to perform general and preventative maintenance, participate in daily maintenance operations and be a contributing team member of various improvement projects in the Recreation & Parks Division. Requires familiarity with basic trade practices in landscaping and tennis court maintenance, as well as the ability to operate various hand tools. Supervision Received and Exercised This position is classified as a non-exempt, full-time position with a 40-hour work-week. Work is assigned, reviewed by inspection, and performed under the direction of a supervisor.The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Performs tasks related to tennis center maintenance projects such as court grooming, power blowing, painting, repair of equipment, pressure cleaning and minor tasks such as drilling, sawing, and use of small tools for building or repairing equipment. Performs general maintenance and clean up duties at Tennis Center which include, but are not limited to, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors, wiping down tables, chairs and other furnishings, etc. Sweeps and maintains HarTru tennis courts Picks up and disposes ground trash and landscape debris. Loads, unloads and moves equipment, supplies, materials and tools. Treat courts to prevent algae. Repairs dead spots, divots, low areas or surface damage. Maintains proper cleanliness and drainage of facility. Sets and monitors irrigation timers. Removes and re-installs nets when necessary (due to storms/hurricanes, etc.) Conducts and submits daily inspection reports to ensure the safety of the public and park facilities. Assists with set-up and breakdown of City events, programming, activities, tournaments and rentals. Identifies, reports, repairs and prevents possible safety hazards to avoid potential injuries. Maintains assigned equipment and vehicles. Assists in ordering of materials, supplies and equipment when needed. Assists in maintaining irrigation systems. Enforces safety and other Tennis Center rules and regulations. Performs manual labor functions as directed by Supervisor or their designee. Additional Duties: Performs additional related duties as assigned and/or required.High school diploma or valid equivalent. Must possess or obtain a 10-Hour OSHA General Industry Card within three (3) months of hire. Experience in landscape maintenance and/or installation or manual labor and Must possess (or be able to obtain within fourteen (14) days of hire) and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in construction manual labor, Hard and Soft/ Clay tennis court maintenance, lawn and/or landscape munication Competencies/K.S.A.'s Effectively communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, contractors, engineers, vendors, outside agencies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Accurately and expeditiously receives and delivers messages and information to the appropriate individuals. Ability to prepare accurate and thorough written records and reports. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervisory direction. Ability to understand and quickly and accurately follow brief oral and written instructions on moderately complex matters. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with supervisor, customers, other employees, other departments, other governmental and regulatory agencies, and the public as needed. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Knowledge of general landscaping and grounds maintenance practices, materials and equipment. * Ability to understand and follow applicable Occupations Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and departmental safety practices and procedures. * Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse environmental conditions. * Ability to operate small trucks and parks maintenance equipment. * Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools. * Ability to work as a member of team or individually on assigned projects and complete assigned duties in a productive and efficient manner. * Knowledge of basic rules of safety and ability to enforce applicable rules and regulations. * Ability to provide excellent customer service and be able to establish good customer relations. * Ability to deal with people effectively, courteously and enthusiastically. Physical and Sensory Requirements / Environmental Factors: Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling on knees, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (50 pounds). Sensory Requirements: Tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, or pathogenic substances.
