Creative Arts Director - Boys & Girls Clubs of San FranciscoPosted:1 year agoJOB TYPE:Full-timeDESCRIPTIONSince 1891, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) has provided high-quality, community-based youth development services to youth in San Francisco. Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. We impact the lives of Club members, primarily ages 6 to 18, by focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character, community engagement, and job readiness with earning potential.The Creative Arts Director has general responsibility for implementing an after-school performing arts program with youth ages 6 to 18 in the disciplines of Music (emphasis on vocal and instrumental), Drama (theater and spoken word), and Dance. The ideal candidate must also have the ability to develop/manage partnerships to provide programming in the visual and art genres.This position is full-time (35 hours weekly during the school year; 40 hours weekly during Summer programming) supporting the Don Fisher Clubhouse. This position is benefits eligible.KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):Program Development - 50%:Offer age-appropriate performing arts experiences for members in specialty area/s.Conduct at least four performance shows per year and participate in BGCSF organization-wide events at least once per year.Plan and organize department programs, subject to the approval of Clubhouse Director.Supervise the maintenance and operation of the department's physical property, ensuring Club member safety at all times.Direct and supervise department assigned activities.Transport Club members in Club vehicles or on public transportation as needed.Exercise authority in problems relating to the department.Track daily program data in conjunction with the Club's Administrative Assistant.Collaborate with other Clubhouses to engage non-members in performing arts experiences.Manage 3-4 partnerships focused on the performing arts program within the Club.Serve on art-focused community boards, subcommittees, or task forces when deemed necessary.Cultivate relationships with local businesses/merchants that have venues for performing arts activities.Direct and supervise all volunteers assigned to the Performing Arts department.Day to Day Tasks - 20%:Attend all meetings, conferences, and training as required.Assist with any fundraising projects conducted by the Club and assist with all Club-wide special events.Dress in clothing that is conducive to working with youth members in a youth development setting. Must wear a Club staff shirt when instructed.Requisition supplies and equipment for the department.Support any other duties the Clubhouse Director might deem necessary to the best interest of the Club and the overall organization.At all times maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco.RequirementsSKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:Expertise working with youth in at least one performing arts instructional program genre (music preferred).Particular focus on youth who live in Western Addition.Ability to develop and implement organized performing arts programs and services.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Experience managing relationships with outside performing arts organizations.Demonstrated organization skills.Current Red Cross first aid/CPR certification (within 90 days of employment).Equipment and property accountability skills.SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:Certification from an institute or college in the area of performing arts.Knowledge of the performing arts scene in San Francisco and particularly in the neighborhoods served by the Clubhouse.Familiarity with the Youth Development organizations in the Fillmore/Western Addition Neighborhoods.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:Must be able to lift 25 lbs.Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.BENEFITS:401K + Discretionary 7% Employer Contribution After One Year of ServiceEmployee Assistance Program: In-Person Counseling + 24/7 Confidential Mental Health SupportEducation AssistancePre-tax Transportation Savings AccountFlexible Spending AccountPaid Time Off + Paid HolidaysLife + Disability InsuranceMandatory summer + winter Weeklong Organization-wide ClosuresProfessional Development OpportunitiesPAY:The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs.
