The Landscape Irrigation Supervisor is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and all related components. This is to include irrigation lines, sprinkler heads control valves, valves, and pumps. Knowledge and ability to operate light and heavy-duty vehicles, backhoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, small tools and any other equipment associated with irrigation maintenance. Other areas of responsibility as well as performing duties include hand-finishes grade, application of seed, straw, or sod, planting, weeding, digging, trimming edging, litter pick-up, spreading topsoil and other materials, as well as more specialized care of landscape plants. Performs related duties to assist in landscaping and hardscaping. General lawn maintenance and seasonal lawn preparation, as well, as spring and fall clean up as needed. The Landscape Irrigation Supervisor may also assist in asphalt, brick, or other stonework; operate power equipment, and hand tools to install, maintain and repair irrigation systems and related components. Ability to operate lawn mowers, and other related equipment. The Landscape Irrigation Supervisor may assist in field renovations, grading, and/or site clean-up tasks and will assist Facilities maintenance staff on projects and any other duties as assigned. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. As essential personnel: you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. 2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Landscape Manager and/ or Director of the Grounds dept. 3. Supervises and manages Landscape crew. 4. Ensures that each employee has received the appropriate training for each assigned task. 5. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing the job duties and responsibilities of an Landscape Irrigation Supervisor and while operating related equipment including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed shoe , respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen. 6. Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other PPE if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs. 7. Provides seasonal maintenance on irrigation systems such as system charging and draining. 8. Basic knowledge of computers and communication cable hookups used in the operation of the irrigation system. 9. Provides seasonal lawn care, such as spring and fall clean-up as needed. 10. Assists in preparing and delivering needed materials and equipment to job site as needed. 11. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and drawings. 12. Moves materials and equipment and performs related duties to assist in in landscaping and hardscaping. 13. Hand-finishes grade, and apply seed, straw, or sod. 14. Applies chemicals under the direction of a licensed chemical applicator. 15. Maintains and performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and notifies Landscaping Supervisor of needed repairs. 16. Participates in and conducts all job site safety briefings with crew members. 17. Ensure that all employees utilize all required personal protective equipment. 18. Understands and instructs employees on proper job site safety procedures. 19. Ensures that all installation work is performed in accordance with industry and company standards. 20. Ensures that all equipment safety and maintenance procedures are followed. 21. Performs administrative functions pertaining to crew management. 22. Interacts with clientele to help ensure job satisfaction in a polite and professional manner. 23. Supervises all crew members during the performance of all assigned work. 24. Leads by example. 25. Reports to work at the designated location on time each day. Must be punctual & dependable. 26. Follows direction from Manager. 27. Direct activities on the job site, they include but are not limited to; coordinate workflow, hand on works, and operating a variety of machinery. 28. Proficient in light and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles, backhoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, small tools, front-end loaders, mini-excavators, and skid steer machinery with various attachments; other construction equipment as needed, as well as, any other equipment associated with irrigation maintenance. 29. Knowledge and experience in installing a variety of irrigation systems. 30. Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, skill, materials, and methods of irrigation system design, installation, and maintenance. 31. Operates power equipment and hand tools to install, maintain and repair irrigation systems and related components including irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, control panels, valves, pumps, etc. 32. May participate in the design or modification of new or existing systems. 33. Ensures that all projects are complete by completely and fully inspecting the projects, making sure that all equipment, tools and materials have been secured and put away; all blockades, ropes and tape have been removed. 34. Works closely with the entire landscaping/ ground's teams on all phases of grounds maintenance. 35. Works on special projects as assigned. 36. May lead workers on irrigation projects and work on other grounds related assignments as needed. 37. Manage personnel effectively and efficiently. 38. Communicating production goals (and other items) with crewmembers, supervisors, and clients. 39. Train and promote the development of subordinates in the best practices of installation and company standards. 40. Monitor all tools, equipment and machinery for needed maintenance. 41. Track and record all job expenses, including but not exclusively materials and hours worked. 42. Always maintain a clean and safe job site. 43. Responsible for proper, safe use and maintenance of all equipment, tools, and chemicals related to the Landscaping/ Grounds team. 44. Reviews short and long-term work plans for grounds projects on a regular basis and develops work plans for grounds maintenance. 45. Perform related duties as required. 46. All other duties as assigned. 47. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks. 48. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission. Supervisory Responsibilities This position is responsible for 3+ staff. Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies 2+ years' professional grounds keeping experience and a high school diploma or GED is required. Pressure washing, lawn care, landscape and/or hardscape experience, chemical spray certification, and CDL preferred. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University. Upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it. Must have basic knowledge of plants (perennials, shrubs, evergreens and trees) and horticulture equipment. Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Strong organizational and computer skills. Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours. Regularly required to lift 50+ pounds. Must have proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required as periodic driving of university vehicles may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
