This role supports the development of a proof-of-concept system for a Department of Defense (DoD)-funded project of national importance, offering a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data science, AI, and prototype development. Due to the nature of the project, U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities: Collaborate with the RCAC-RSE team to develop and test data workflows and pipelines for structured and unstructured data. Contribute to the creation of proof-of-concept systems using tools like Streamlit or Gradio for building web-based interfaces. Support the integration of machine learning models and data visualization tools into the system. Assist in documenting processes, tools, and workflows to ensure project sustainability. Skills Required: Foundational knowledge of data science, statistics, and machine learning. Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), including text processing and modeling Proficiency in Python and familiarity with common data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy). Basic understanding of web-based interface development and tools (e.g., Streamlit, Gradio). Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) concepts or database integration. Enrollment as a graduate student at Purdue University, particularly in disciplines such as Computer Science, CNIT, or related fields. Ability to work in a hybrid setup, with occasional in-person collaboration at Purdue's campus in West Lafayette, Indiana. Experience with tools for data visualization and analysis. Prior exposure to prototype or proof-of-concept development. This position provides a unique opportunity to apply data science and AI concepts in a real-world, multidisciplinary research setting. The student will gain valuable experience working alongside experts in data science, AI, and software engineering while contributing to a project with direct applications in the defense sector. Compensation and Time Commitment: This position requires up to 20 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments.
