DescriptionThe Truck Driver is a road maintenance position. Individual operates a variety of trucks and performs miscellaneous labor in support of construction, maintenance, or repair of county roads and shoulders, bridges, drainage systems, traffic and road signs, and engineering projects. Capable of working independently and in a group setting during normal work hours and during call-outs.Driver is subject to and expected to be available for call-out 24-7 for emergency response to a variety of road related occurrences. Essential Functions Operate dump trucks, utility trucks, fifth wheel tractor trucks, tanker trucks, and automatic or manual transmissions During winter storm periods, driver will install sanders and snow plows prior to driving, and may be assigned the application of deicingDrivers are required to inspect and maintain their assigned truck's engine fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, and clean the vehicle, etc. Remove tailgates and install/adjust tire chains on large trucksPerforms tasks common to road maintenance work such as: traffic control flagging, operation and minor maintenance of trucks or road machinery, lifting and moving signs and barricades, asphalt patching, brush cutting and removal, guardrail or fence repair, jetting of culverts and similar activities. Physical labor may include but not be limited to: Tree falling and cutting, cleaning culvert ends by hand, dismantling beaver dams, hand brushing, operating and feeding the chipper, removal of dead animals from the right-of-way, cleaning equipment, assisting mechanics in the shop, assisting with shop clean-up or inventory, and other labor-intensive jobs.
