DescriptionThe Truck Driver is a road maintenance position. Individual operates a variety of trucks and performs miscellaneous labor in support of construction, maintenance, or repair of county roads and shoulders, bridges, drainage systems, traffic and road signs, and engineering projects. Capable of working independently and in a group setting during normal work hours and during call-outs.Driver is subject to and expected to be available for call-out 24-7 for emergency response to a variety of road related occurrences. Essential Functions Operate dump trucks, utility trucks, fifth wheel tractor trucks, tanker trucks, and automatic or manual transmissions During winter storm periods, driver will install sanders and snow plows prior to driving, and may be assigned the application of deicingDrivers are required to inspect and maintain their assigned truck's engine fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, and clean the vehicle, etc. Remove tailgates and install/adjust tire chains on large trucksPerforms tasks common to road maintenance work such as: traffic control flagging, operation and minor maintenance of trucks or road machinery, lifting and moving signs and barricades, asphalt patching, brush cutting and removal, guardrail or fence repair, jetting of culverts and similar activities. Physical labor may include but not be limited to: Tree falling and cutting, cleaning culvert ends by hand, dismantling beaver dams, hand brushing, operating and feeding the chipper, removal of dead animals from the right-of-way, cleaning equipment, assisting mechanics in the shop, assisting with shop clean-up or inventory, and other labor-intensive jobs. Regular, reliable and punctual attendance Perform related work as requiredShow initiative in performing job functionsSome crew members will be assigned to operations such as operation of oil distributors, water trucks, oil tankers, and herbicide operations, applying herbicides to road shoulders, assignment to these operations will be made following appropriate training.May be required to load and unload equipment for transport from one site to another May be temporarily assigned to assist Sign Technicians in pavement marking operations, post hole digging and sign placement, and similar activitiesMay be temporarily assigned to operate a piece of equipment May be required to load sand into their truck on an occasional basis Knowledge of:Practices and procedures related to road construction or maintenance Basic mathematicsRoad and construction safety practicesAbility to:Operate heavy construction equipment, large trucks and power toolsLoad and unload heavy equipment Establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers, supervision, and the general public Work effectively without direct supervision Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of a variety of trucks within the Public Works fleet Comply with Washington State Motor Vehicle Laws Minimum QualificationsAny equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job may be considered.High School Diploma or GED Minimum of two (2) years experience in road construction or heavy equipment operationLICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Washington State Class A, CDL with endorsement N for tank trailersA First-Aid/CPR CardA Flaggers CardMaintenance of current skills, good driving record, and additional training as needed Supplemental InformationThis position requires a Class A CDL.Applicants are required to submit a Driver's Abstract from the Department of Licensing for review.WA State Licensing DOL - Request Driving RecordThis recruitment is open until filled, application review in ongoing.
