GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: General dentist at non-profit clinic. Provides on-site dental care and treatment to eligible patients. Facilitates patient referrals to outside service providers, as needed. Supervises the dental department at Los Alamitos clinic: dental hygienist, dental assistant, and dental receptionist. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Train, supervise, and collaborate with dental hygienist, dental assistant, and dental receptionist at clinic. Evaluate patient health history and medical records. Diagnose diseases and conditions of the teeth, gums, jaws, and other oral tissues. Formulate comprehensive treatment plans and review options, risks, and benefits with patients. Perform dental treatments, including, but not limited to: composite and amalgam fillings, crown and bridge, removable prosthodontics, and occlusal splint therapy. Promote preventive dentistry and educate patients in proper oral care. Locate referral options and assist with facilitating agreements with outside service providers for treatment that is beyond the scope of the clinic. Make recommendations for streamlining procedures and improving service to patients. Supervise dental activities to achieve maximum expense control, efficiency, and productivity. Communicate with dental laboratory and track patient cases for fabrication of dental restorations, prostheses, and devices. Monitor inventory of dental equipment, materials, and supplies and submit orders for replacement and maintenance. Create a welcoming, comfortable environment for patients and assist them with making necessary appointments. Maintain clean treatment rooms and equipment in accordance with current infection control best practices. Maintain, update, and review patient records and assist with information for patient co-payments. Prescribe or dispense patient medication within purview of appropriate dental practices, as applicable. Comply with HIPAA and other federal, state, and local regulations. Comply with foundation's policies and procedures. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school. Actively licensed to practice dentistry by the Dental Board of California. At least one year of work experience or a post-graduate residency is strongly preferred. Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of dental care. Current BLS/CPR certification. Current DEA registration. Current malpractice insurance policy. OTHER SKILLS: Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Ability to work with patients, staff, and other healthcare personnel. Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others. Ability to provide excellence in customer service. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to speak Spanish is helpful but not required. COMPUTER & EQUIPMENT SKILLS: Use practice management software. #CB
