JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Park & Facility Operations, the FT Fleet & Park Maintenance Specialist is responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of mowers, tractors, chainsaws and other grounds maintenance equipment as well as trucks, vans and other District vehicles to the extent possible. Duties include troubleshooting, repair and cost estimating, tracking of maintenance and repair orders, equipment usage, fuel consumption, equipment and parts inventory, and purchase/replacement recommendations. This position also oversees the Park District preventative maintenance program and provides staff training on proper equipment usage and maintenance. While the majority of responsibilities for this position are equipment and vehicle centered, this individual will also perform various maintenance tasks to include repairs and improvement of grounds, facilities and buildings, special event set-up/take down, garbage pickup, snow removal, and other duties as assigned. This individual must be able to work well independently with little supervision and as a team member on a crew. Will be part of the Parks department On-Call schedule and respond to calls as needed. Some weekend and evening work will be required. This is an at-will position. Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30 pm, occasional weekend and special events required. Approximately 40 hours per week with some overtime possible. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING: * The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative to achieve safe, and well-maintained equipment, vehicles and park facilities. * A high school diploma or equivalent is required with advanced coursework or an associate's degree in mechanical or automotive engineering or similar preferred. * At least five years of practical experience in a park district or municipal setting working on a variety of equipment and vehicle maintenance and repairs is required. * Prefer three (3) ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) or similar certifications. * Experience with power tools and equipment related to fleet maintenance is required. * Skilled in welding and cutting. * Hydraulic systems experience related to landscaping and fleet equipment. * A valid IL driver's license with Class A CDL designation is highly desired. Will be required to obtain a Class A CDL within one year of employment if not already current. * Knowledge of the Glen Ellyn Park District coverage area is helpful. * Knowledgeable and skilled in DOT inspection requirements. * OSHA 10 training and other relevant safety training or the ability to obtain within six months of employment is preferred. * Skill and proficiency in the use of computers including fleet management, inventory, and work order systems, with the aptitude to research, learn, and utilize other systems/applications. * Effective analytical, math, and problem-solving skills with an aptitude for short and long-term planning. * Effective organizational skills, time management, and the ability to pivot/shift tasks are essential. * Ability to read, interpret, and utilize technical manuals, drawings/diagrams, and technical instructions as needed to perform job duties. * Possess strong safety awareness and utilize sound judgment in all aspects of this position. * Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team is essential. * Effective leadership, communication, and customer service skills are essential with the capacity to exhibit authority and remain calm and respond well under pressure or in high stress/emergency situations. * A valid IL Pesticide Operator's license is required or the ability to obtain within one year of employment. * Grounds maintenance experience is preferred with snowplow/snow removal experience highly desired. * Must be in good physical condition to perform manual labor, stand and walk for extended periods of time and have manual dexterity and sufficient strength to lift and/or move 70 pounds or more on a regular basis. * Capacity to work outside in various weather conditions including extreme heat, humidity, cold, wind, snow, etc. * Ability to read, understand and communicate in English both verbally and in writing. * Available to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to maintain operations, perform emergency repairs, support special events, etc. * CPR/AED/First Aid certified or capacity to receive within 3 months of hire. * Candidate must pass a post-offer, background check and pre-employment physical with drug screen.
