Talent Acquisition Director at CBIZ, recruiting for our New Jersey teams! CBIZ is assisting our Real Estate client, a premier owner and developer specializing in residential properties, with a Chief Accounting Officer role based in New York, NY . The Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's accounting and financial reporting functions. The CAO ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the implementation of best practices in financial management. This role will collaborate closely with the executive team to support the company's strategic goals and drive financial performance. Key Responsibilities Oversee the preparation and timely submission of accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and other applicable regulatory standards. Coordinate and manage external audits, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting requirements. Lead and manage the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting. Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure efficiency and accuracy. Monitor and analyze accounting data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement. Partner with the finance team to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial models. Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on financial analysis and reporting. Support the executive team in decision-making processes by providing financial expertise and guidance. Oversee cash flow management, banking relationships, and investment strategies. Ensure optimal capital structure and liquidity to support the company's growth and operations. Manage debt financing and covenant compliance. Ensure accurate accounting and reporting for real estate development projects, including cost capitalization, project budgeting, and revenue recognition. Oversee property management accounting, including rent rolls, tenant billing, and property financial statements. Implement industry-specific accounting practices and software solutions. Build and lead a high-performing accounting team, providing mentorship, training, and professional development. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration within the accounting department. Develop succession plans and talent development programs to ensure long-term success. Evaluate and implement accounting software and technology solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Stay current with industry trends and innovations, incorporating best practices into accounting operations. Drive digital transformation initiatives within the accounting function. Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks, implementing appropriate controls and procedures. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Collaborate with the legal and risk management teams to address any financial or regulatory issues. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required. Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Prior experience in the real estate industry, including real estate development and property management, is highly desirable. In-depth knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and other relevant accounting standards and regulations. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proven ability to lead and manage accounting teams, with a track record of developing talent and fostering a collaborative culture. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with executive leadership, board members, and external stakeholders. Proficient with Yardi. Ability to work in an office environment with occasional travel to company locations and real estate developments as needed. May require extended hours and availability outside regular business hours. Compensation range is between $175-$250K CBIZ is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
