Company Overview Intentional Futures is an idea-to-impact consultancy. We work with visionary leaders to solve hard problems that matter. Our clients are change agents who believe the world can be better than it is. We act as trusted guides and thought partners on their journeys. We are a firm of researchers, strategists, and designers that work on complex issues with corporations, nonprofits, and family foundations. We are looking for a highly experienced Principal Graphic Designer to join our team. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. We believe that having staff with diverse backgrounds allows us to better serve our clients, support one another, and fulfill our mission. As an equal opportunity employer, iF considers all applications without regard to race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, military service eligibility, veteran status, sexual orientation, marital status, physical or mental disability, or any other protected class. People of color, women, and LGBTQIA+ individuals are encouraged to apply. Job Summary The iF Principal Graphic Designer is a highly experienced and well-rounded hands-on designer, focused primarily on graphic design, but also skilled in additional design disciplines such as UX Design, illustration/animation, or design research. Candidates should have extensive client and consultancy/studio experience, the ability to adapt their broad set of design skills to a variety of project design tasks and deliverables, as well as serve as a mentor (not manager) to other designers on the team in terms of leveling up processes, tool proficiency, and client collaboration. Principal Designers are expected to act with complete confidence and agency within project teams, responsible not just for the hands-on design execution but also setting the vision and design direction for the arc of a project. Many of iF's strategists and clients are less familiar with design processes, so it falls on the Principal Designer to guide them, making sure design directions and implications are clearly communicated in specific, tangible ways to instill confidence throughout the project timeline. The majority of iF project work is graphic design: creating a range of presentation materials, workshop facilitation tools, information graphics, visual identities, and illustrative storytelling assets. We also often partner with technology companies and clients who need to envision UX scenarios or develop product strategies as part of broader research or strategy-centric projects. We are not a production UX shop and so there is less emphasis on interaction/UI design, but being familiar with current UX patterns, technologies, trends, and the ability to envision UX solutions through user flows, light prototyping, and/or feature scenarios is required in order to interact with and advise clients within their domain. The Principal Graphic Designer reports to the Design Director. Role and Responsibilities Act as a solo design lead and individual contributor within iF project teams, leading the design processes with confidence and autonomy. Scope, define, and lead design production of project deliverables such as presentation designs, visual identities, strategic frameworks, design research documents (e.g., customer journey mapping or UX envisioning), and a variety of storytelling assets. Juggle multiple projects and manage your own timelines and workstreams. Create workshop facilitation assets and tools, and be a lead facilitator (alongside strategists) for client workshops and group presentations. Assist with business development efforts, including creating pitch materials, attending BD/pitch meetings, and accurately scoping design workstreams within the larger project scope. Contribute to design team skill advancement by exploring new tools and processes, and educating others on how to deploy within typical project work. Work on marketing materials such as case study design, marketing newsletters/posts, annual gift design, and internal graphic design needs. Qualifications 8+ years of experience as a graphic designer in a studio or consultancy environment. 4+ years experience as an individual contributor in additional design disciplines (ideally UX design, design research, or storytelling/illustration). Ability to proactively establish project design direction and scope with internal and client teams. Ability to articulate and lead clients through every step of the design process with complete agency. Collaborate closely with iF research and strategist subject matter experts, translating their needs into impactful design communications and deliverables. Comfortable leading project conversations with senior and executive stakeholders. Excellent attention to detail. Good time management and organizational skills. Explore and learn new design tools and processes which can expand design team offerings or create efficiencies in our process. Ability to create repeatable processes and/or templatized solutions. Strong command of graphic design fundamentals: layout, photography, typography, color usage, graphic illustration, data visualization, and information graphics. Fluent in Adobe Suite (primarily Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign) and Figma (or similar). Expertise in designing within slide/presentation tools such as Google Slides/Docs, PowerPoint/Word, Miro (or similar digital whiteboard tools). Experience with emerging AI content creation tools (e.g., MidJourney). Experience with digital CMS/web design tools. Experience with video/animation production tools (e.g., AfterEffects or Lottie). Salary, Benefits, & Additional Information At Intentional Futures, we conduct iterative and extensive market research to learn what is considered a competitive salary for each of our roles. However, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Along with this, iF offers a benefits package that includes: Healthcare coverage including domestic partner benefits. Flexible Spending and Dependent Care Account options. Life insurance. Short-term disability coverage. Paid parental and adoption leave. 4% 401K match. Paid time off. Learning and Development Resources. Subsidized ORCA Card. The preferred candidates will be someone who lives in the greater Seattle area or is willing to relocate, but we are open to candidates from other regions as well. iF cannot offer work visa sponsorship at this time.
