Work Hours/Days: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. / Monday - Friday Position devoted to maintaining and enhancing lawn areas along roadways and on City property through the performance and supervision of staff performing semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work. Employee will serve as a third-level field supervisor over paraprofessional and technical staff, which includes overseeing multiple crews and functions. Incumbents are responsible for ensuring adequate staffing levels; managing maintenance projects; preparing procurement documents such as contract specifications; inspecting grounds and landscape assets; monitoring safety training; estimating labor and material costs; and reviewing and approving expenditures and purchasing transactions; directing and supervising an assigned function within a landscape maintenance unit; resolving escalated customer complaints; reviewing and analyzing field operating performance and implementing improvements; and assisting with the formulation of the budget and monitoring of expenditures. Employee will serve as a third-level field supervisor over other supervisors (Crew Chiefs 1 and 2) and paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures. * Supervises and coordinates project or department operations of multiple crews and functions, to include planning and assigning work, review and assessment of landscape, drainage or light construction plans (pavers, retaining walls, etc.), evaluating and prioritizing service requests and work orders; ensures adequate staffing levels; monitors safety and operational training, and convenes and facilitates meetings. * Inspects facilities, grounds, equipment, vehicles, devices, pesticide storage, and job sites in the assigned area; reviews and analyzes field performance, pesticide application logs; identifies maintenance needs; implements improvements; and ensures compliance with applicable safety and operational standards, requirements, specifications, policies, and procedures. * Performs procurement and assists with formulating budgets in the assigned area of operation; may estimate labor and material costs; prepares contract specifications; monitors, reviews, and approves expenditures and purchases; and researches product information and orders materials. * Prepares, maintains, reviews, and/or approves technical, historical, and/or general reports, records, plans, and other documents; reviews permits, work orders, and service requests; maintains databases; researches and compiles information; and develops and makes recommendations. * Coordinates with residents, contractors, vendors, City departments, and external agencies, to provide customer service and technical assistance; resolves escalated customer complaints; conducts surveys; assists with special projects; reports and investigates accidents; transports employees to laboratories or emergency facilities; and responds to service and other internal requests. * Associate's "or" equivalent. * Four (4) years of in the field of landscaping or applied horticulture. * Experience as a lead worker or supervisor in the field of landscaping or applied horticulture. * Position critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event. * A valid North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License * A valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record. * Computer skills. * Familiarity with Mapping and Planning software (ArcGis, Bluebeam, CAD). * Familiarity with asset management software (TreeKeeper, Facility Dude, City Works) * MUTCD Roadside Environmental Safety Certification
