A Day in the Life:The Animal Intake Behavior Specialist will assist with the intake of owned and stray animals by reviewing available information in advance of appointments, speaking directly with owners, adopters, and staff regarding a pet's behavior and assisting with behavior evaluations to determine suitability for adoption. Additionally, you will educate pet owners and provide surrender prevention resources when possible and assist with end-of-life services when needed. As part of the Animal Assistance Team, you will work very closely with the Medical and Behavior teams and be a key AHS storyteller by sharing our mission and values with the public.Job Requirements:High schooldiploma/GED required.Spanish bilingual preferred.Minimum one-year providing exemplary customer service.Two years' experience working in a shelter required, preferably in a behavior or intake departmentCPDT-KA or comparable certification, or coursework in animal behavior preferred.Excellent interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills required.Understand and be able to interpret canine and feline body language.Understanding how animals learn through operant and classical conditioning, and the ability to relay this to pet owners using common language.Must be able to maintain accurate records. Chameleon experience a plus!Experience performing behavior evaluations on canines, modifying fearful behavior in canines and modifying food aggression with people in canines preferred. Experience with basic training of canines a plus.Review animal profiles for upcoming appointments to determine suitability for adoption.Complete follow up calls to customers as needed to assist in determining suitability for adoption.Assist in the performance of initial behavior evaluations and provide detailed, objective descriptions of the behavior Speak directly and professionally with owners, finders, and staff in regards to the pet's behavior and suitability for adoption through AHS.With the goal of keeping behavior animals at a healthy capacity, control the flow of animals through collaboration with the Behavior and Capacity and Flow Departments.Collect Animal Assistance fees and solicit donations.Assist with end-of-life and aftercare services as needed.Assist the Animal Assistance team in surrender prevention and customer experience efforts.Provide resources for rehoming during surrender appointments and at the front desk for walk-ins.Physical Demands/Work Environment: The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, kneel, and reach with hands and arms. There may be occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors, and dander. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
