Description / Position Overview Garden of the Gods Trail Technician (PT Park Support) - (Seasonal Position) About the Job: Garden of the Gods Park seeks highly motivated and team-oriented individuals to help protect, preserve and enhance the natural environment of the park. This position helps develop trail rehabilitation, construction, and erosion control projects by implementing master and management plans. Your responsibilities span maintenance operations, infrastructure support, and community engagement. Job Type: Seasonal Work Schedule: (4) 10 hour or (5) 8 hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week. Hours worked will be between 5 am and 5 pm. Employees will be expected to work mornings, occasional weekends and holidays. (Normal work schedule will vary depending upon the needs of the department) Work Location: Garden of the Gods Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). Approximate dates of employment will be mid-May through September (negotiable). Scheduled hours will vary based on department needs. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually. Open until filled. As a Garden of the Gods Trail Technician, you will: * Implement trail rehabilitation, trail construction, erosion control, restoration and reclamation projects * Perform maintenance tasks, including cleaning bathrooms, mowing, repairing fences, repairing parking lots and roads, pruning, painting, and removing trash and snow * Help maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and operational efficiency of the park * Assist with mapping rogue trails, trail infrastructure, and unauthorized entry points; compile daily statistics and other routine documentation * Work with and lead volunteer and community groups during volunteer workdays * Support contractors with materials * Operate work trucks, two-way radios * Assist visitors by providing aid, answering questions, and informing park visitors of park rules and regulations * Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally at all times with diverse park visitors and volunteers * Ability to safely operate equipment such as trucks, snowplows, tractors, mowers, string trimmers and various hand and power tools * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships * Knowledge of GPS and GIS systems * Knowledge of Trail maintenance and construction * Knowledge of local environment (geology and ecology concepts), attractions and recreational opportunities Minimum Qualifications * High School Diploma or GED * Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges * Possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), WFA (Wilderness First Aid), and Colorado DOT Flagger Certification Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are not required, but they are considered desirable. This information may be used to identify a top group of applicants. * Landscape, maintenance, or construction experience * Experience using GPS units and software * Experience with mechanized equipment, including mowers, tractors, snow plows, skid steers Additional Information Work is performed outdoors with possible exposure to extreme weather conditions, dust, and pollen This position requires the ability to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally; sit, stand, run, or walk for prolonged periods; stoop, climb, and bend frequently; and hike up to six miles.
